Description

Sept. 25, 1928.
A. H. MERRILL KEY CASE Filed Dec 12, 1925 IAR'IHUR H. MERRILL, or
KEY
Application filed December My invention relates to the class of devices for holding and retaining keys, and an object of my invention, among others, is the provision of a case within which the keys may be selectively inclosed, and a further ob ject of the invention is the provision of a case of novel construction for the purpose specified; and a still further object of the invention is the provision of means for 'lOOSGly attaching the keys in a manner to enable them to be readily accessible for use.
One form of device embodying my invention and in the construction and use of which the objects herein set out, as well as others,
may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of one side of my improved key case with the flaps opened out and showing the keys attached in place. 7 Figure 2 is a view of the opposite side of the case with one of the flaps closed, a key and the means for securing it being shown in dotted lines.
Figure 3 is an edge view of the case with the flaps in opened posit-ion. V
Figure 4 is a view, scale enlarged, in section through the case on a plane denoted by the dotted line 4-4 of Figure 1 and illustrating the manner of attaching the keys.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the case shown as closed. 7 My improved key case is constructed to provide at leasttwo compartments'wherein in one compartment a key or keys required 35 for frequent use may be selectively inclosed, and wherein in another compartment other keys not so frequently required for use may be collectively inclosed. This case embodies a selective compartment 6 and a collective compartment 7 and it may be composed of any suitable flexible material, as leather. In the preferred form of construction the selective compartment is closed by a single flap 8 and the collective compartment is closed by 45 a double flap comprising members 910, al-
though the arrangement shown maybe varied as to the number of flaps as to the different compartments without departing from the spirit and intent of the invention. v V
In the preferred form of construction and one that I have found to satisfactorily answer my purposes, a back 11 comprising one side of each of the compartments above mentioned is extended and folded at one end to form the flap 10, and the flaps 8 and 9 are'composed of a single piece, folded at one edge and ew I l ear at rria,
rrAR'rnoRn, ooivnn'c'rronr l CASE? 1 12, 1923. Serial No. esom be secured to ears 16 overturned from a supporting plate 17 secured to the back in any suitable manner, as by riveting.
Snap hooks 19, ofany ordinary form and construction to enable the keys to be readily attached and detached, are loosely secured to the loop 15 of the supporting link, and said links are attached to the bar 13 in a manner to afford considerable p layfor the links. The snap hooks are attached to the links in a manner to afford much play for the hooks and the attachment of the keys to the snap hooks further provides for considerable play, any of which features of looseness, in whole or' in part, provides for such looseness in the mounts for thekeys as to enable suchkeys to assume any of the positions that may be required, as
' for insertion of a key in'a lock.
' It willthus be seenthat the key 20, that 'may be required for more frequent use than others, contained in the case may be located in the selective compartment 7, and little trouble will therefore be required to select such key for use whenever it ma-y be required, and being separated fromthe other keys in the case such other keys will not interfere with the free and unobstructed use of the selected I 7 keys. 7
It will be understood that the means here inabove described for attaching the keys ap- V plies to such means for such attachment in f each-ofthe compartments r V In accordancewith the provisions of the patent statutes I have described the princie ples of operation of my invention, together with the device which I now consider to mp resent the'best embodiment thereof; but I desire to have-it understood that the device shown is only illustrative and that the invenv tion may be carried out by other means and 1. key ease formed of flexible material i and embodying two fiat sections with one side 7 bein edge of *the first section secured to the second section at a point intermediate its opposite side edges and Witha portion of the second section overlyingthe e ection to form a pocket for a key supported by one of the sections, the outer portions of the two sections the opposite edges of the sheet being foldable foldable to cover keyssuspendedon.-
in directions away from the flap to form one wallof a second compartment for-a, plurality of keys at the other side of the sheet and said compartments having means to respectively snppo'rtone,-and'-a imiltiple number of keys.
In a key caseformed o'faflexiblesheet, key holding devices intermediate the opposite side edges of the sheet, said sheet embodying end flaps foldable upon each other to overlie said key holding devices, and a flap at the opposite side o-f the sheet said flap carrying a selective key holding device.
