ROBERT L. wHrrsEL, or souTH'onIcAeo, ILLINOIS;
CIGAR AND CIGARETTE noLnER.
Application filed June 26, 1926, Serial No. 118,645. Renewed August 6, 1928.
This inventionrelates to holders for cigars and cigarettes and aims to provide an article of this character that is ,so constructed as to afford not only a holder for the cigar or cigarettes, but also a receiver for the ashes dropped therefrom so that the same will not fall upon the floor when the holder is being held in the hand or upon the desk, .table,or other support when the holder within which the cigar or cigarette is arranged is disposed thereon. i i
i The invention further. aims to provide a holder of the foregoing type that is additionally so constructed as to enable the same to be disposed upon a desk or table Without any liability of the cigarette burning or otherrolling from place: to place, while resting upon the desk. V a f Other objects will become apparent as the nature of the invention will be better underaccompanying drawing and claimed.
-In the drawing wherein like reference.
characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the various views:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved cigar and cigarette holder.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof, and
Figure 3 is an enlargedlongitudinal frag men'tary section disclosing more clearly the cigarette receiving and stem attaching nipple of the holder.
Now having particular reference to the drawing, my novel holder constitutes the provision of an open top receptacle 5 of a length slightly greater than thelength of the brand of the cigar .or cigarette preferred by the smoker and of a width slightly greater than the cross sectional area of said cigar'or cigarette as clearly disclosed in Figure 1. The
upper edges of the sidewalls of the receptacle. 5 are flared outwardly to assume the formation of wings 6-6 for facilitating thedisposition of a cigarette or cigar therein. The back wall of the receptacle 5 extends upward ly to the edge of the wings, whereas the front wall terminates at the. lower edge of the wings so as to permit the cigar or cigarette to be engaged or removed from the receptacle by the passage through thewings at thefront 1 v I I Y with the threaded opening, an enlarged end thereof.
mediate threaded portion of a horizontally vision of the receptacle there will be abso- V The rear wall of thereceptacle 5 the up? per edge thereof is formed with a threaded open1ng7w1thm which is arranged the interarranged nipple 8. The inner or forward end or thlsnipple is enlarged and socketed as at 9 for receiving the proper end of the cigar horizontal threaded socket 10 for-receiving or cigarette as clearly in'dicatedin Figure 1. i
the inner threaded end of a preferred type of stein l1, said nipple being formed with a lone gitudinal smoke passage 12 in communication at its opposite ends with said cigarette socket 9 and stem within the threaded socket 10.
It Wlll thus be seen' that when the cigar or cigarette is arranged within the socket 9 the ashes falling therefrom will" be entirely caught within the receptacle 5 and thus prefrom place to place and causing the cigarette i to. drop therefrom. Also, in view of the prolutely no, liability whatever of the lighted end of the cigarette coming in contact with a support for marring the same.
vent the dropping of the same upon the floor Even thoughI have herein shown and d e scribed the invention as consistingof certain detail structural elements, it is nevertheless to be understood that some departures may be had therefrom without affecting the scope.
of the appended claim. I
Having thus described the invention, what I claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a ci ar and cigarette holder of theclass described, a substantially rectangular shaped open'top receptacle, the side walls thereof being flared outwardly at their upper ends to provide wings, the upper edge of the forward end wall of the receptacle terminating at the lower edges of the wings, the upper edge of; the rear end Wall of the receptacle extending tothe upper edges of the wings,the upper portion of the rear end wal-lbeing provided with a threaded opening,'a nipple extending through the opening, the intermediate portion thereof being threadedfor engagement the enlarged socketmember engaging" the inner face of the upper portion of the rear end wall of the receptacle, the other end of the nipple being provided with a stem receiving socketsaid hippie being further provided with a longitudinal sn'ioke pessage' afierding l communication between the respective sock- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
