` MUSICAL-INSTRUMENT CASE.
Application filedv ctober 22, 1925.-' Serial No. 64,266.
This invention relates to cases forthe transportation of dismantled clarionets, or the like.
The principal object of the .invention is to provide a case in whi-ch thc separated parts of a clarionet may be arranged in a very limited space., Another object of the-invention is to provide a case of the character described in which a reed compartment is provided.
Other and more specific objects of the invention are mentioned and described herein.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of an open case for the separated parts of a clarionet in which the invention is built; Fig. 2 is a -plan View of the interior frame illustrating the manner of forming the several compartments therein ;`Fig. 3 is a side elevational view thereof; Fig. 4 is an end view of the interior frame viewingrit at the open end of compartment 3; and Fig. 5 is an end view thereof viewing it from the opposite end; Fig. 6 is a cross section on the linev 6-6 of Fig. 1. Y
Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views on the drawing.
Referring to the details of the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates generally'an open boxlike case provided with a hinged cover 2, said case being adapted particularly to have the several separatedparts of a clarionet arranged therein for transportation, the means whereof comprises the four compartments 3, 4, 5 and 6 hereinafter described vin which the four separated parts of the cl'arionet, viz: the belled end section, the two intermediate sections, and the mouthpiece section (none being shown) respectively, are to be arranged. The c ase interior is providedalso vwith the fifth compartment 7 adapted to contain reeds, or the like, for the clarionet.
The interior frame of the case which is so designed that the iive compartments inenv tioned are formed thereby may comprise the two side longitudinal and parallel bars 8 and 9, the two inside or medial bars 10 and 11, also extending longitudinally of the case and substantially parallel with each other and said side bars, the end supporting bar 12 transversely arranged, and the two end support-` ing blocks 14 and 15, all of which are preferably made of wood and glued together and into the case interior. The forward end'of each of the bars 10v and 11 is' flaredoutwardly lat 16V and-17 respectively, to conform to the belled endl of a clarionet, which is a .well
known construction, and the twoinwardly projecting transverse cooperating lugs 18 and ,19, respectively, of said bars, p-referably integral therewith, serve to vform a partition i betweencompartments 3 and 4. The bars 10 and 11 are provided also with the'inwardly j projecting and cooperating lugs 2O and 21,
respectively, to form one end lpartition or Y wall of compartment 4 and also the innerend wall or partition of compartment 7, the opposite Vend wall of the latter compartment being formedb-y the two inwardly projecting lugs 22 and 23,.respectively, of the bars 10 and 11, adjacent the end of the latter. The
end transverse bar 12 is provided with a recess 24 midway of its ends in which the ends of bars 10 and 11, including lugs'22 and 23, are arranged and secured adhesively, or
j otherwise.` 1
The wood` block 14 may support the cooperating forward ends'of the side bar 9 and the medial bar 11, and the block 15, preferably wood, maysupport the cooperating forward ends of Side bar 8 and medial bar 10, the bars 8 and 9 having spacer end lugs 25 and 26, respectively, to effect the proper in-` terval between said bars and said medial bars,
the opposite endsof the bars 8 and 9 being vmounted inrecesses27 and 28, respectively,
formed in the opposed ends of the end bar 12.
The numeral 31- indicates a box-like reed container, preferably open atthe top thereof and arranged in the compartment ,7 A cloth covering 29 may enclose the container 27, and a cloth covering 80, of velvet or other suitable material, may cover the wood frame formed of the several bars described.
My invention enables the productionof a very short case for the transportation of the separated parts ofa clarionet, and one that v is cheap, substantial and readily handled.
I claim'rl 1'. An interior frame for a musical instrument case of the character described comprising in combination, two side bars spaced apart, two medial bars arranged between said side bars, substantially parallel and lspaced. from each other and Vfrom said side bars, each o-f said medialbars being provided with a plul rality of laterally projecting and cooperating lugs forming aplurality of compartments between said medial bars, one of said compartrangement Within a case. Y 2; An interior frame ments havinal` belled end, and means-for ae-v curlng said ars together as a unit for ar= -for a clarinet case comprising in combinatiomtw substantial-ly parallel spaced apart side bars, two medial bars arranged between said sidebars; Substantially lparallel and spaced from each other and from said side bars forming a single compartment between each medial and side bar, each of sld medal'ba'rs being provided-with a fsiamiieyjf magi-a1 laterally projecting and c'ooratinglugs forming' a plurality of coin;-4 par mentsbetween said medial bars, one of said compartments having a belled'end, and
3. In an interior frame for a clarinet case,
two substantially parallel and spaced kside hars, each of said hars being providedwith a laterally projecting lug'adapted to coolp-y erate vwith each other to` form a transverse partition between said bars, whereby a plurality v0i. compartments are formed therebetween, one of said compartments having a flared end and another 'c'oiiipartinent having container mounted-therein. l
In Witness whereof I have hereunto afliXed' my signature this 19th day-of October, 1925'. i 4 SAMUEL A. CLTOK.
