IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168.458, dated October 5, 1875; application filed July 24, 1875.
Too whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. GoREY, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my curtain-fixture as attached, and Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views.
This invention has relation to curtain-fixtures; and it consists in shielding the spring used to produce the tension on the pulleycord, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings, A designates a wooden curtain-roller, in the periphery of which a groove is made longitudinally from end to end, for the purpose of receiving the upper end of the curtain B, and also a rod that confines the curtain in place. D is the endless cord which is used for raising and lowering the curtain B. This cord D is passed around the pulley c, and also around a small grooved pulley, g, which has its bearing on the free end of a convolute spring, J, secured in a suitable manner to the frame of the window. The spring J draws down on the cord D, and keeps it under constant and proper tension. G designates a circular guard, which is pivoted to the window-frame in'such rela tension of curtain-cords, consisting of a horizontal spring-arm, a fastening-screw, or its equivalent, a grooved pulley, and provided with a detachable guard to the spring, has heretofore been employed, as shown in Letters Patent granted to Thomas Hagerty, dated February 27, 1872, No. 124,131, and I therefore lay no claim to such invention.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the curtain -fixture herein described, consisting of the pulley 9, spring J, and pivoted guard Gr, provided with a flange on part of its circumference, as specified.
