UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

REMOVABLE CARD-TABLE COVER.
Application filed August 1, 1927.- Serial No. 209,846.
This invention relates to removable card table covers and has for its object the provision of means for removably attaching a cover. to card tables of different thicknesses.
Another object of our invention is the provision of an adjustable means for attaching a cover to tables of difl'erent thicknesses so as to retain the cover taut on the horizontal surface of -a table with the edges thereof adj acent the edges of the table.
Other objects will appear hereinafter, the novel features and combinations being more clearly set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a card table equipped with a cover embodying ourinvention.
Fig. 2 is a side view of a card table equipped with a cover embodying our invention.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line Fig. 4 is a fragmentary bottom view of modified form of our invention.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of a further" development of our invention.
Fig. '7 is a fragmentary bottom plan viewof another development of our invention.
Fig. 8 is a sectional view taken on the line 8-8 of Fig. 7.
Referring particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, the numeral 10 designates a horizontal table top having legs 11 and braces 12 attached thereto. The table illustrated in the drawing is of the usual foldable card table type, it being understood that our im proved removable card table cover is adapted to be employed on tables of other forms also.
The cover 13 is provided with diagonally disposed straps 14 by means of which it is secured to the table top 10. As shown in Fig. 3 the cover is bound at its edges by a binding 15 which is folded around the edge of the cover in a double thickness with one thickness on the top surface and the other thickness on the bottom surface thereof, and these thicknesses are stitched to the edge of the cover as at 15. An eyelet 16 is disposed through the two thicknesses of the binding 15, through the edge portion of the cover and throu h the en portion of the strap 14.
It s ould be understood that the end portions of the strap 14 are secured adjacent the lower thickness of the binder 15 and are folded inwardly so as to be conveniently disposed around the edge portion of a table top and to smoothly engage the same. The other end of the strap 14 is secured by an eyelet 17 to the edge portion of the adjacent side of the cover 13 and is folded inwardly as above described. It should be understood that the strap 14 preferably comprises elastic material, thatit is disposed diagonally across the corner of the table cover beneath the same and that there is sufficient slack in the elastic strap 14 to accommodate the thickness of the table without requiring that the tension in the strap, when the same is disposed over the corner portion of the table top, be so great as to render the cover member unsmooth. The arrangement of the inwardly folded end portions of the strap provides a means of attaching a cover to a table in such a manner as to have the edges thereof retained in the plane of the edge portion of the table cover.
In the modified form of our invention illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5, the strap 14 which also comprises elastic material is pivotally attached at one end to the edge portion of the table cover 18 and the binder member 15 by an eyelet 18 and is provided with a snap fastener element '19. A plurality of spaced apart snap fastener elements 20 are attached to the binder member 15 of the adjacent edge of the cover 13 and are adapted to retain the end of the strap 14' having the snap element 19 thereon in a desired position. It should be understood that the amount of slack in the strap 14 can be predetermined for table tops of different thicknesses and that the tension of the strap 14 may also be adjusted by attaching the snap element 19 to any desired one of the snap elements 20.
As shown in Fig. 5 the snap ments 20 are secured to the lower thickness of the binder 15 by stitches 21 which extend through the two thicknesses of the binder and through the edge portion of the cover 13.
In the modified form of our invention 'illustrated in Fig. 6 the strap 14 also comp-rising elastic material is stitched at one extremity to the binder 15 and is provided at its other extremity with a sna fastener element 22 adapted to be engage at any one of the spaced apart snap fastener elements 23 on the adjacent edge of the cover member 15.
In the modified form of our invention il-' lustrated in Figs. 7 and 8, a channel member comprising a bottom 24 and sides 25 is profastener elellt vided with flanges 26. There is a slot be- 1 adapted to engage opposite rods 27, is mounta. can...
ed in the slot of the channel member and is provided with an extension which extends downwardly therefrom below the channel member. A handle or knob 30 is provided on the lower end of the attaching member by means of which the hook element 29 ma rotated so as to render the same free to be moved along the channel member and engaged on another pair of rods.
A strap 31 comprising a fabric covering and a sheet lead lining 32 is rotatively mounted at one end on the extension of the hook member 29 and is adapted to be extended diagonally across the corner of the table cover as illustrated in Fig. 7 A snap fastener 22 is attached to the other end of the strap 31 and is adapted to be engaged on any desired one of the snap fastener elements 23 on the adjacent edge of the table cover 13. It should be understood that the strap 31 maybe disposed in the position of the strap 14 illustrated in Fig. 3 with the end portion folded inwardly and that the sheet lead lining 32, although not resilient, permits sufiicient flexibility to allow the strap 31 to be folded around the edges of the table top 10. It should also be understood that the elastic strap 14 of Fig. 3 may be conveniently employed together with the adjustable attaching mechanism of Figs. 7 and 8 without departing from the spirit and scope of our inventlon.
Having thus described and shown an embodiment of our invention, what is desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A removable cover for card tables comprising a cover member, binding members attached to the edge portions of said cover member, a channel member mounted on one of the binding members of said cover member, spaced rods in said channel member, a hook element disposed in the groove of said channel member and having an extension, a strap comprising a fabric covering and a sheet lead lining rotatively mounted at one end on said extension, snap fastener element attached to the other end of said strap, and
y snap fastener elements attached to the hindbe disengaged from any pair of rods 27 and 1 ing member of the adjacent edge of said cover member adapted to accommodate the snap fastener element of said strap, said hook element being adapted to be selectively engaged on the rods of said channel member for suitably positioning one end of said strap and said first mention'ed snap fastener being adapted to be selectively engaged on any desired snap fastener of said adjacent binding member for suitably positioning the opposite end of said strap.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a strap connected at one end to a binding member adjacent a second binding member, of a channel member mounted on the said second binding member, spaced rods in said channel member, a hook element disposed in the groove of said channel member and havin an extension, the said strap being rotative y mounted at its free end on said extension, and said hook being selectively engageable on the rods of the channel member for positioning one end of the strap.
In testimony whereof we have aflixed our signatures.
