SUSPENSION-CHAIN COUPLING.
Application filed August'19, 1927. Serial No. 214,101.
The present invention relates to an improved and seemingly novel coupling such as it is especially designed for use 1n connoction with an incandescent electric bulb and a suspension chain therefor.
In this class of invention, it is quitecustomary to employe an ornamental ceillng tric fixtures and lights, the electricity conductor wires being entwined about the links of the chain and connected with the terminals of the bulb socket.
Although various forms of connections are provided between the chain and the bulb sockets, such connections to my mind, are accompanied by various apparent disad vantages.
The principal aim here is to provide a dependable andmodern type of coupling which is distinct in thatit possesses such features as completeness, characteristic arrangement of details functioning to produce a novel product, and further embodying such exclusive and indispensable features as practicability, simplicity, and low cost of production and sale.
In the drawings Figure l is a fragmentary elevational view showing the relationship of the coupling of tire suspension chain socket, and representing the coupling in elevation and section.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the reference character 4 designates generally, an ordinary suspen sion chain which is composed of ornamental links. Connected to the lowermost link is a connecting ring 5, having a reduced screw threaded neck 6. he neck as well as the lower portion of the ring is formed with a bore providing a passage for the lower ends of the conductor wires 1. The wires as usual are connected with ordinary terminals 8 on the section 9 of the socket structure.
As indicated in Fig. 3, this part 9 includes a marginal skirt or wall having a small nib 10 on one side, functioning as a retention detent. The reference character 11 designates a portion of an ordinary electric bulb, which is separably connected to the complemental part 12 of the socket structure.
The improved coupling is generally des ignated by the reference character 13. Although this coupling may be of any suitable material, it is preferably composed of poicelain. It is constructed to provide a horizontal arm 14, having a screw threaded hole 15 into which the aforesaid neck is tapped' that the annulus16 is disposed in spaced parallelism with respect to the arm 14, at such a point as to suspend the socket structure and bulb in spaced relation to the supporting ring 5. It is obvious that the annulus 16 is interposed between the sections 9 and 12 of the socket, while the arm ll is connected with the screw threaded neck on the suspension ring 5.
The nib 10 is located in the notch 18 to prevent turning. IVith this arrangement, a dependable connection is afforded between the chain and soc ret, this type of coupling being advantageous in that it will support a comparatively heavy fixture and will prevent accidenta-l separation of the fixture from the suspension chain.
It is thought however, that the merits of a device of this kind will be quite clear to persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates. F or this reason a more lengthy description is believed unnecessary.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is In a structure of the class described, in combination, a suspension chain,a ring carried by the chain, said ring being provided with a screw threaded neck, an electric fixture including a socket composed of separable sections, a coupling including an arm having a screw threaded hole threadedly receiving said neck, and also having a part interposed and clamped between the sections of said socket, said last named part being in the form of an annulus provided with a notch, and one of the sections of said socket being provided with a nib receivable in said notch.
