. IMPROVEMENT IN CORSETSQ- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,304, dated September 28, 1875; application filed August 27, 1875.
To all whom it mag concern.
Be it known that I, IRA DE VER WARNER, of Cortlandville, Cortland county, State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Corsets, of which the following is a specification: My invention consists of two side pieces forming the body of the corset, provided with busts or breast -forms laced or clasped to gether in front and rear, and with shoulderstraps and hooks for the support of the skirts.
In. the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a front view of the corset, showing the clasp. Fig. 2 is a rear view, showing the parts laced together. Fig. 3 represents one of the sides or parts of the corset.
A A are the two parts forming the corset, gored or seamed so as to fit the shape of the body, and provided with busts or breast-forms P P, which are made by inserting gores and flexible stays to give the requisite fullness, and kept expanded laterally by across stay or spring, indicated by the dotted lines b b.
The parts may be laced together both in front and rear, or laced in rear and clasped in front, as represented. S S are shoulder-straps, holding the corset up to its place. h h are metallic hooks attached to the body of the corset both before and behind by a single eyelet, upon which the hook may swing. Upon these hooks the skirts may be hung by rings or loops thereon.
I am aware that hooks for supporting the skirts, and shoulder-straps attached to some forms of the corset, have been used, but not with a corset having the framed forms or busts described. These are intended to fit over the breasts, and being comparatively unyielding, the comfort of the wearer requires that the bust be not allowed to slip down or work up, and that it also may be worn loosely. straps over the shoulders, and the weight of the skirts on the books, it is claimed accomplish .this, however loosely the corset be worn.
I claim As a new article of manufacture, a corset provided with the bosom-forms P P, expanded by the cross-stays?) b, the shoulder-straps S S, and the pivoted hooks h h in front andrear, the whole being combined and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
I. DE VER WARNER.
