UNITED STATES PATENT OFF CE.
JOHANN MAXIMILIAN PLESSNER, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN ADVERTISING-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,284, dated September 28, 1875; application filed January 21, 1875.
To all whom it may concern l Be it known that I, J OHANN MAXIMILIAN PLESSNER, ofLondon, England, have invented an Improved Table-Top for Holding Advertising-Tablets, Photographic and other Views or Devices in Sheets, of which the following isa specification: I
The object of this invention is to construct a table-top with spaces in the surface-for holding tabletssor sheets of advertisements, photographs, 850.7 in sheets, and covering the same with a sheet of glass so that the devices or advertisements can be seen and read from above. Thetable-top is, in most cases, fitted upon a stand so that the top can be rotated to enable the advertisements to be examined without the observer moving from his position, as exemplified in the accompanying drawings. a
Figure l is sectional view of a table, and Fig.2 a plan of the top surface, showing the spaces A, in which the advertisement-tablets or photographs, in sheets, are tobe arranged.
The ribs B1B divide the spaces and form rests for a sheet of glass, 0, which is retained in position by its edges being within a bezel or ring, D, fastened to the edge of the top base-piece E by screws inserted from below. The center of the top base-piece is connected to a pillar-stem, F, supported and kept central by a tube, the stem being held by'a screw-pin, H, from below, and with the head of the screw-pin bearing slightly againsta shoulder of the tube, as shown. The tube terminates in a foot or base, I, and the ripper part is of annular spread-out shape to steady M the table-top, and to assist as a bearer for the .rotation in an easy manner. The table-top and the stem rotate as one body in this plan,
but in Figs. 3 and 4 the stem, as forming part of the top, is dispensed with, and in'lieu thereof the central portion of the top basepiece is dropped over a pin, and a nut holds it in position, the cavity in which the nut takes being covered by a plate or disk to hide the nut from view.
The pillar J of this table is solid, or it may be hollow for lightness, and has, say, three arms, K K, projecting, which carry rollers L L as bearers for the table-top to be rotated upon. The bezel ring or band D, in this case, is screw-threaded upon its inner periphery, to
piece, so that it, when the glass is in place,
can hold the advertisement-tablets or photo- "removed and others placed in.
The table-top may be of any shape, and any number of spaces can be formed in the top base-piece for grouping the views, designs, or
devices, photographic or others, to be exhibited.
By my invention a series of photographic portraits, say ofa family, can be displayed at a glance, and a number of persons can examine them at one'time, the table-top being rotated to bring each photograph round to the observers in succession.
I claim as my invention- As a new article of manufacture, a table having a suitable transparent top, with spaces for the display of advertisements, photographs, or other similar devices, and a base, E, having recesses formed therein to contain said advertisements, photographs, or other similar devices, arranged with capability of being rotated by means of the tubular portion G, and so constructed that the top plate may be removed with facility for changing the advertisements, &c.. substantially as shown and described. 7
