BUILDING BLOCK.
' Application led August 16, 1927. SerialaNo. 213,343.
My inventionl relates to building blocks and refers more particularly to a block provided with tongues and grooves whereby ad jacent blocks may be held in fixed relation to 5 each other. y
One object of my invention is to `provide a building block that has al tongue on two sides and a shouldered groove on the other two sides.
Another object of my invention is to providey a building block that has an air channel on two sides that will register with similar adjacent blocks to provide horizontal and vertical air channels throughout a wall built up l5 therefrom.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a building block that has one face i formed like brickworl.
I am aware that building blocks with channels, tongues and grooves and holes therein have beenused in the art butV none of them contemplate the specific formation of this particular block nor do any have a face formed like brickwork.
invention consists of the novel construction and combination ofelements hereinafter referred to, specified and claimed and substantially as illustrated' in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar numerals refer to like parts throughout'the several views, in which Y Figure 1, is a frontl elevation of the block. Figure 2, is an end elevation of the block.
VFigure 3, is a front elevation of a series of blocks.
The block 1, ma be ofv 4any suitable shape but is preferarly rectangular, has/a With these and other objects inview, my
free.
.jacent blocks, thus leaving the air groove 5,l
On the face 12, are grooves 13, formed to imitate brickwork and stantially flat. i
Having thus described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limitmyself to the exact formation shown, as modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or or scope of the claims. I claim:- f 1. A building block Acomprising asubstanthe back 14, is subtially rectangularly shaped bodyportion hav- I ing a T shaped groove providing a shoulder on the upper and on one of the end faces, and a square shaped tongue on the lower and opposite end face, adapted to engagewith the shoulder of a contiguous block.
`2. A building block comprisinga substantially rectangularly shaped body portion having` a T shaped groove on the upper and on one of the end faces providing a square shoulderadapted to engage with the square tongues of contiguous blocks, the tongues on the lowerand opposite end faces abutting the shoulders of .said grooves providing rectangular centrally arranged air spaces around each block in a wall built therefrom.
Signed at NewV York, county of New York and7State of NewYork, this 15 day of Aug., 192
