A. BELL BRICKLAYER S TOOL Filed May 11, 1927 IN VEN TORv A TTORNEY til Patented Aug. 28, 1928.
UNITED STATES ANDREW BELL, F YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO.
BRICKLAYERS TOOL.
Application filed May 11,
This invention relates to brick layers tool and more particularly to a tool used in cutting and shaping of brick.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a tool that may be repointed without resorting to the ordinary method of having the points of the tool heated and hammered out in order to repoint the same.
Another object of the invention-is to provide adjustable point members held between an outer curvature of the tool and an outer member formed to conform with the outer curvature of said tool.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for securing said point members and for the adjustment of the same in order to project the point members as desired when the same becomes worn off by use;
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein The figure is a side elevation of the device.
Referring first to the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing, I have shown a body member 1 provided with a central eye 2 having two oppositely disposed curved arms 3. The upper portion of these arms 3 are provided with a plurality of notches d. The purpose of these notches is to provide an adjusting means for point members 5 so that a slightly down turned end 6 fits into the base of notches 4. An upper securing member 7, formed of thin steel rests upon the point members 5. These point members 5'are held in position by means of clamps 8 which functions over the upper securing member 7 and the arm members 3. These clamps 8 are secured to the arm mem bers 3 by means of set screws 9 which function with a cup shape depression 10 formed on the inn r side of said arms 3.
When the ends 11 of the point members 5 are worn off the clamps 8 are loosened and the point members 5 are moved outward so that the slightlydown turned ends 6 are positioned in. a second notch of the plurality of 1927. Serial No. 190,512.
notches 4 in order to project the points 11 thereby repointing the tool. When this is done the clamp members 8 are placed in position and the set screws 9 are set in a securing position It is obvious that a handle member 12 is used to function in the central eye 2 of the tool. It is also obvious that the point members 5 may be projected time and again as the points ll are worn off each time functioning in any desired notch 4 as above described.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s 1. In a device of the class described, a body member, a central eye in this body member for the reception of a handle, two downwardly curved arms projecting outwardly from said body member, a plurality of notches formed on the upper surface of said arms, a flexible point member having a downwardly turned end functioning in said notches and resting upon the upper surface of said notches, a flexible upper securing member positioned directly above said point members, a plurality of clamps holding securely said point members between an upper securing member and upper surface of said notches and including a clamp near the outer ends of said arms, means for adjusting and fastening said plurality of clamps, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, a body member, a central eye in this body member for the reception of a handle, two downward ly curved arms, a plurality of cup-shaped depressions on under-surface of said downwardly curvel arms, a plurality of notches formed on the upper surface of said arms, a flexible point member having a downwardly turned cud functioning in said notches and resting upon the upper surface of said notches, a flexible upper securing member positioned directly above said point members, a plurality of clamps holding securely said point members between an upper securing member and upper surface of said notches and inluding a clamp near the outer ends of said arms, a set screw functioning in each of said clamps and held in clamp position by means of being turned into cup-shaped depressions formed in said downwardly curved arms, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
