Description

UNITED STATES tion. i metal corner pieces.
PATENT GEEroE.
`roETEE E. TovvLE, oE EAvEEEILL, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BucK-sAw FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 68,194, dated September Q8, 1875; application iiled August 21, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PORTER B. ToWLE, of Haverhill, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Buck-SawFrarnes, of' Which the following is a specication:
My invention consists of making the frame of three comparatively straight pieces of Wood, joined together by corner-pieces of metal inserted in slots in the end ofthe Wood pieces, and nailed -through the wood and plates together. 'The object is to contrive a simple and efficient way of making substantial frames.
Figure l is a side elevation of a complete saw-frame contrived according to my inven- Fig. 2 is a side elevationl of one of the Fig. 3 represents the three wood pieces in side elevation, and Fig. 4 represents the Wood pieces edgewise.
' Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts.
A is the handle-piece, B the top, and C the bottom piece, all being saWed out of Wood on suitable curves, and shaped with beveled ends,
so as to form the frame represented in Fig. lv
when put together. The part A has the slits or mortises E and F saWed in it, and near the upper end it hasthe shoulder G formed for the end H of the top piece B. This top piece has slits I I', one in each end, and the end piece G has slit J in one end, and Kin the other. The slit K receives the lower end of the saw, the other slit receiving one end of the metal corner-piece M, thel other end of which is itted in the slit I of piece B, while the slit Il of piece B connects, by a similar metal corner-piece, with the slit F of the handle-piece. The Wood pieces and the metal pieces are bored and fastened by rivets N,
making stift' and substantial. joints. The
pieces B and C are connected by a 1ap-joint, which aids in stitfening the connection thereat considerably.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the Wood pieces A, B, and C, and the metal corner-pieces M, When the Wood pieces are slotted and matched, and the metal corner-pieces tted in the slits, and the Wood and metal pieces riveted, substantially as specied.
PORTER B. TOWLE.
