WILLIAM H. MAGEE, OI IVIOUI IBSVILLE WEST VIRGINIA; ASSIGNOR T0 FOSTORIA GLASS CO., DIE MOUNDSVILLE WEST VIRGINIA,A CORPORATION OF WEST VIR- GINIA.
DISPLAY STAND.
Application filed March 30, 1926. Serial N0. 98,572.
This invention relates to display stands such as nsed in stre Windows and tho like, and has particular reference so 5l1e display ofshoes, slippers, etc.
An object of the invention resides 1n the provision of such a stand or a hea d therefor Wl1icl1 Will be neat and attract1ve 1n appearanto and which when in use Will bo disposed entirely 'Within the outline oi iho arhcle being displayed thereby elminzuting a tendency to distract she obiservers attentmn from the article itself.
Another objeot of tl1e inve'ntion cons1sts in the production 01 a head for shoe stands 1nade in a single pisse without moving parts, and yet which Will allow the sh0e tobe exllibited at varying angles in a vertical plane so as co present the n1ost adwnntageous d1splay tl1ereof.
Another obje2t 0'f tl1e invent1on ros1des 1I1 the provision of a one-piece head for d1splay stands which 1nay be mounted on V2I-ilous types of 'bases, and in the construcfaon of an adapter fo1 use in providing a, t1ght fit between l;he parts irrespective of slight variations in their sizes;
Other objects and aolvantages of the invention Will be apparent from the following description when taken in conneo@1on with ehe accornpanying drawings, 111 wh1ph:
Figure l is a side elovation of tl1e 11H- proved display stand sl1owing two posit1ons ofa shoe indotted lines.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the display head per se.
Figure 3 is a perspective view 0f the adapter; and
Figure 4 is.a plan view 0f .1he head.
Referring to the drawings in groater detail oho mnneral 1 designates a base preferably formed of glass and in oho present embodiment ofthe invention disclosed as a candlestick provided with a socket 2. It Will be understood of course that other typos of bases may be used as desired, and 1f preferred n1ay be .n1ade integral with the head to be dsscribed below.
The head of tho display stand, which is also prefembly made ofglass, i s a one-piote structure indicated generally bythe nu1neral 3 and provided 0n its lower end vvith a plug 4: adapced to be seated in the socket 2 of the base ortion. The body 0f the head 8 l1as integrzilly formed thsreon a pai1 01. horizontally-spaced, forivardly extendi ng projections 5 adapted to form a rest for the toe o1 forwznd part 0f the shoe being displayed, while extianding rearwardly and upwardly therefrom is a stem 6 also integrally f0nned and'provided with adown-turned end portion 7. This Curved end portio'n 7 is formed Witli a plurality of spaced ledges 8, 011 any ono 01 whioh 1nay rest the heel of tl1e shoe Whi0h is indicated by thenu1neral 9. Obvionsly, the series of ledges 8 pennits the shoe t0 be tilted to any preforred osition 'f01' display without any adj ust1nent of set s3rews onthe lll(u as has been necessary in shoe stands heretofore in use.
In the present embodhnent oi die inwantion, in which a separable base and hez1d am employed with a plug und socket connetion, it is desirable that an 2Ldapte1 be used l0 compensate for any inqualities in the sizes 0l the plug and socket. T0 this end I have provided tho 1ne1nber 10 preferably 1nado 01 somo resilient nmte1ial such as rubbei and forn1ed with tho spaced, longitudinal 1'ibS 11. In applying the head 3 to the baso l, the adapter 10 may be -applied to the plng 4 or to the socket 2 and the plug then inserted into the so1ket, The adupter is, of course, closed ab it's lower end.
It Will be unde1stood that tl1e invention herein disclosed particulmly contemplates the use of the head With a separate lasse; the base being prefemloly in die form of a candlestick and the height may vary f1o1n the low 01 squat type of candlest-ick to toll cm dlesticks of any desired height. Bub the invention also contemplates a strncture in which the l1ead is integrnlly fonned Willi tl1e base or pedestal; and further, the base or pedestal 1nay be entirely omil'tted, and in place o}? tl1e plug 4 t-he lower portion of tho heud nmy be fl2ned to a suiliciont Widlh to function as a support for the l1end, thereby providing a vory 10W display stand.
From the forogoing doscription takon in connection with the accoxnpanying drawings it Will be observed filmt I have devised an excsedi1igly simple *clisplay stand for shoes, Which is not only neat and attractive in appearance, laut also is capable of displaying shoes at the 1nose advantageous angles without the necessity 0l 1n'echanical adjustments of any kind.
In accordance Wiah the patent statntes I h2we described' what I now 3elieve to be tho besbembodiment of the invention, but I t1on, as many changes and modificatins 'maj b'e Made withont departi'nfg from the spitit of the ihventi0n; all such I ain1' to inch1de in the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desile to secuie by Letters Patent is:
1. In a display stand f0r shoes, a 110Il* tiltable head including a downwardly inclined rear end provided with 1neans fonned thereon f01 supporting the hee1 0f' a shoe in v'arying vertical positions.

3. In a display stand f0r shoes, a head including an upwardly inelinedstem terminating in a downwardly curved end portion provided with means fonned thereon for supporting the heel 0f a shoe in varying vertical p0siti0ns.
4:. In a display stand fo1' shoes, a head in- .eluding a forwardly extending projection adapted to Support the tde, of a sl-1C, nd a rearwardly and upwardly eXtending portion provided with a cnrved end, and means 011 sind curved 'end fr supporting the hdael 0f the shoe in varying' vertical 150sitioi'1s.
5. In a displajz stand for sho6s, a head i'r1duding a pair of horizontally:spatzed forwardly extending projections adapted to supp0it thetoe 01 the shoe, and a rearwardly extending eurved ortion 13povi ded with me'ans for supporting the heel;of the shoe in varying vertieal positions.
6. In a display stand f0r shoes, a onepiece head :including a forward proj edtion jan u p wardly inclined stenr, a downwardlijr eurved real end and a pluralitjr of ledges spaced along said eurved end;
7. In a display stand for shoes, a substantially vertical stem, an integral for- Ward portion adapted to supprt the toe' of a shoe, an integral fearward portion adapted to suppo rt the' heel df a shoe and means fonned integral with sa id r'earWard ortion f01' positioning the he el at Varying heights. e j
