MGIN'IIRE, 01E NEVJ YORK. N. Y.
PIPE HOLDER.
Application filed November 24, 1924.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, Josnrn l-i. Moln'mnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brook: lyn, in the county of Kings and State oi: New York,- have invented a new and improved. Pipe Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to pipe holders and more specifically to a stand or support which is portable, which may be located on the armof a chair, table, desk or other support, and which will receive and hold a sniokers pipe in position to prevent the ashes from falling out of the pipe.
[in object 01 the invention, therefore, is to provide a device of the character stated which in an ordinary sinoliers pipe can be conveniently laid or positioned and will hold the pipe in upright position until again desired for use.
further object is to provide a device of this character which is preferably of wire, bent into proper shape, which will be attractive and ornamental in appearance and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonably low price or given away for advertising purposes.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features cit construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
in the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improv ed pipe holder;
igure 2 is a view in longitudinal section s-ehowing the pipe in position in the holder;
Figure 3 is an end elevation showing the 'e in the holder.
improved pipe holder is composed pre. ably oi. a single piece of wire 1, which at its; intermediate portion is bent into somewhat oblong shape forming a foot or support 2. The ends of the wire are then bowed outward, as indicated at 3, to receive the bottom portion of the bowl i of the pipe 5. After these outwardly bowed portions are formed the ends of the wire are Serial No. 751,994.
then slightly oii'set, as shown at 6, and then converge in straight lines, as shown at 7, and are twisted together, as shown at 8.
"ll he extremities of the wires are then bent outwardly and downwardly and upon themselves, forming feet 9, and these feet 9 are preferably longer than the toot or support :5, so that ne end of the holder is preferably higher than the other when positioned on a table. The ofiset portions 6 and the straight portions 7 of the wire form a somewhat restricted portion 10 to receive the stem 11 or pipe and exert a suliicient gripping or holding action to prevent the possibility oi the pipe tilting. Furthermore, this shape allows the pipe to rest snugly within the bowed portions 3 of the wire and ai'i'ords ample accommodation for the bowl or portion of the same so as to insure the retention of the pipe in an upright position.
While I have described a precise shape and manner oi construction itis obvious that it is capable of a wide range of modi iication without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the necise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A pipe holder composed of wire having feet at its ends, and outwardly bowed portions in runs of the wire intermediate the ends of the support for the reception of a pipe, said bowed portions having an opening to receive and support the bowl or he pipe, and said opening having a restricted end to receive a portion of the stem oi: the pipe.
2. A pipe holder composed of a single piece of wire bent intermediate its einls forming an oblong foot, and adjacent its other end having the runs oi? the wire twisted together and projecting di'muiwardly Forming other feet, the runs of the wire between the twisted portion and the lirst mentioned foot being bowed laterally.
