This invention relates to cupboard catches, and it is an object of the same to provide a catch that is adapted to fit all manner of small cupboards such as kitchen cupboards,
l medicine-cabinets and the like.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a cupboard catch that may readily be locked in position and maintain itself in this position.
Another object of this invention is to provide a cupboard catch that is simple in its construction, contains relati vely few moving parts, is unlikely to get out of order, and is well adapted to perform the services required of the same.
With theforegoing and other objects in view which will be made manifest in the following detailed description and specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference is had to the accompanying drawings for an illustrative embodiment of the invention, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front View of my cupboard catch showing the same applied to a cupboard door.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken along the lines 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along the lines 3-3 of Figure 2.
In the above drawings like characters of reference designate like parts throughout, and the reference numeral 1 designates aeupboard door, and the numeral 2 designates the jamb. The j amb is provided with a socket member 3 held in place by the small wood screw l, and this socket is adapted to receive the bolt on my improved cupboard catch. My cupboard catch is adapted to be embedded in the cupboard door in a suitable space provided for the same. This catch comprises a substantially rectangular COD," tainer having top and bottom walls 5 and 6, rear walls 7, side walls 8 and 9, and a front wall or plate 10, which is fastened to the cupboard by means of wood screws 11. The front wall 10 is provided as at 12 with an aperture, defined by a pair of inwardly extending flanges 13 and 14. These flanges form a sliding journal for a bolt 15. The bolt 15 is threaded at one end as at 16 and is receivable in a sliding member 17 or follower, which member is rectangular in shape and has therethrough a substantially ellip tieal aperture 18. The side walls 8 and 9 are apertured. at 19 and 20, which apertures 19 and 20 are directly opposed on the side walls, and mounted in these apertures is a cylindrical piece 21 to which is keyed eccentrically the shank 22 of a handle 23. This shank 22 extends outwardly from the casing through an aperture in the cupboard pro vided for the same, to the front of the cas ing. At the point at which this shank passes through the casing, there is provided an an nular flange 24, which bears against the casing, and on this flange 24' is formed a knob 25. A suitable plate 26 is fastened by means of wood screws 27, to the face of the cupboard door, and at 28 there is an offset portion through which. by means of the aperture 29, the handle member extends. This offset portion is adapted to hold the flange 2-Zl slidabl'y against the cupboard face. Pivoted to the knob 25 is a substantially U- shaped member 30. This member 30 is preferably formed of resilient material, and its opposing arms are bent as at 31 to provide an eyelet 32 receivable upon a male snapfastener The lower end of this U-shaped member has formed thereon a suitable ring 34: by which it may be operated to turn the handle.
In actual operation my device operates in the following manner. When the cupboard door is in locked position, the U'shaped member having engagement with the snapfastener 33, does not permit rotation of the handle. The cupboard door is locked from without. In order to release the catch on the cupboard, the U-shaped member 30 is swung outwardly so as to release its engagement with the snap-fastener, and the handle 33 is rotated to the left from the position shown in Figure 3, the cylindrical member 21, acting as a cam on the sides, and the elliptical aperture 18 moves the follower to the left and the bolt 15 being formed on the follower, is withdrawn into the casing and the cupboard door may be opened. Reversal of this operation serves to project the bolt 15 so that the cupboard door may again be locked,
I do not desire to limit myself to the exact arrangement of parts shown and described. The specific design and workmanship is a matter of choice, and only in so far as I have pointed out my invention in the appended claims do I desire to be limited.
It will be understood that various changes the de il of onstruction may be made without departing from thespirit or scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A door catch comprising in combination a substantially rectangular casing, a rectangular follower slidably and loosely mounted in said casing, a substantially elliptical aperture extending through said follower, a cylindrical member eccentrically mounted in said casing, extending through said aperture, a bolt extending from said follower through said casing, a handle member keyed to said cylindrical member, serving as a shaft upon which said cylindrical member is eecentrically mounted, said handle member extending exteriorly of said casing, a fastening member pivoted to said handle member so as to swing therefr om,there being a catch on said fastening member and a stationary lug over which said catch is adapted to be inserted to hold said handle stationary, whereby said follower will be fastened against i'novement.
2. A door catch comprising in combination a casing, a follower in said casing, a bolt on said follower adapted to project from said casing, cam means for moving said follower to throw or withdraw said bolt, a handle member for said cam means, said handle member extending exteriorly of said casing, a fastening member pivoted to said handle member so as to swing therefrom, and means cooperating with said fastening member to hold said handle stationary whereby said follower can be fastened against movement.
