UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCIS J. NUGENT, or ASTORIA, NEW YORK.
LOCKING DEVICE FOR GALLEYS.
Application filed August 18, 1927. Serial No. 213,747.
This invention relates to clamps for curing type ina galley so filed away in a that it may be cabinet without danger of disturbing the setting thereof. -After type has been set up it is necessary to maintain it and the the type in place in Although such clamps have provided the necessary securing function they to manipulate and use of the galleys for filing purposes. An object of the have been inconvenient have prevented the free present invention is to provide a clamp which has no projecting portions cabinets and which is easy to adjust. is proposed to eliminate the tying of to obstruct the filing of galleys in It the type with a cord and enable the adjustment to be made by merely pushing the clamp on in the desired position.
Other objects will be apparent as the scription proceeds and reference will now be had for a more detailed description of the invention, to the accompanying drawings wherein Figure l is a plan view'of a galley with type arranged therein and secured by means of the galley clamps which constitute present invention.
the
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a clamp, constructed 1n accordance with this invention, andformed as a left-hand clamp.
Figure3 is a view similar to Figure 2,
a right-hand clamp. partly clamp being formed as Figure 4 is a view in elevation,
the
in section, and taken on line 44 of Figure 3.
Referring particularly to Figure 1, a indicates a galley for receiving the type b which is to be filed in a cabinet. The usual furniture 0 is provided at the outer. portions of the type b, and clamps d secure the furniture and galley. Secured to the arm (F, is a spring v depending spring piece having an arm type in the desired manner in the galley.
'Figures 2, 3 and A show the construction of the clamp in greater detail. A suitable piece of metal (Z is formed with an arm (1 which engages the furniture, and an arm. d which lies against the up-turned side of the to clip d which has a depending portion (5 adapted to engage the'side of the galley a. The clip may be secured to the arm d by welding or any other suitable manner, and is formed to engage the side of the galley frictionally and thus to prevent casual forces from dislodgin'g it.
It will be apparent from the accompanying drawings that the clamp is secured to the galley in a manner to permit the free use of the galley for filing purposes. The finger which engages the outer side of the galley forms buta slight projection and does not prevent the filing of the galley. The construction embodied 3 in this clamp constitutes the present invention only in so far as the specific clamping means is concerned, such invention being set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A galley clamp comprising means to engage the type to be secured, meansto engage a galley, and a spring finger carried by the last means to engage the galley frictionally to secure the type in a desired posi- 75 tion. I
2. A galley clamp comprising an angle to engage the type and an arm to engage a galley, and a spring finger on the second arm lying in close prox- 80 imity to the galley to secure the latter frictionally between the arm and finger.
This specification signed this 15th day of August A. D. 1927.
FRANCIS J. NUGENT.
