REGISTER FILTER.
Application led December 10, 1926. Serial No. 153,994.
This invention relates to a register guard.
The chief object of this invention is to provide means for filtering the air discharged from a hot air register and for tempering the same.
The chief feature of the device consists in a rectangular framework for a rectangular register and positioning over the same for forming a continuing channel therefrom. Said open framework supports in spaced relation to the register a filtering screen, the framework including in its lateral portion a suitable. aperture for permitting lateral discharge of reflected and deflected air.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claim:
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the register guard. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same mounted in position adjacent a register. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of the invention. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view through the same in position adjacent a register.
In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings 10 indicates a floor having an opening 11 receiving a register 12 with a perforated plate 13 through which the Vair discharges. The guard consists of a rectangular framework l'iaving' the side walls 15 whereby the fran'icwork 14 is positioned in spaced relation to the register plate 13 and said framework 1. periphcrally supports a fine mesh screen 1G. The spacing portion 15 is suitably aperturcd as at 1,7 and the same may be fully cut out or may he formed with defiecting portions 9 in the form of louvers. Extending inwardly from the sides 15 and towards the open framework 14 is a deflector 18 which forms a. trough 19 adapted to receive water.
IV ith the resultant construction positioned over a register the air discharged therethrough and therefrom impinges on screen 1G and the dirt and other particles and preventing their passing into the room and discoloring the walls and the like. The defleet-or 18 insures that the air which passes adjacent the edges of the register is deflected inwardly through the screen for screening action. Such of the air as does not pass through the screen but is reflected or deflected in the attempt to escape, passes lat,
erally through the openings 17 and over the trough 19 and takes up some of the water and thus humidifies or tempers the air in the entire room. The louvers 9 may be posit-ioned as desired, and herein are shown oppositely directed from median planes so as to secure better distribution of the air.
In Figs. 3 and 4 a modified form of the invention is illustrated, wherein the side 115 supports the open rectangular framework 114 and the screen 116. Said sides are provided with the openings 117 having the louvers 109. Herein a deflector 118 is provided adjacent the register plate 13 but is not coextensive with the rear edge of theV framework 115, but is in spaced relation thereto, whereby the lower portion of the guard may be cut out as at 121 to conform to the base hoard and quarter round. In this form of the invention the defiector 118 docs not form a trough for containing water but an additional trough 119 is provided in the upper portion and access thereto may be had through the opening 120.
The operation of the device is substantially similar to that previously described with reference to Fig. 1. That is, the direct passage of air through the screen filters the same and the dcflector 118 insures such passage. Such of the air which does not pass through the screen is deflected and passes laterally from the guard through the openings.
The invention claimed is:
In combination with a register controlled channel and a supporting surface, of a register filter supported by said surface including a wall peripherally enclosing the register and substantially inclosing the supporting' surface and formingl a continuation of the register controlled channel, said wall having a plurality of openings near the top to discharge laterally of the channel, a filtering screen supported by said wall and substantially transverse to said channel and at the top of said wall'v and an inwardly directed deecting wall peripherally associated with the bottom of said wall and substantially coeXtensive therewith for directing heated air from the register controlled channel inwardly to the central portion of said filtering screen.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature.
