o. G. HITCHCOCK SOAP DISH SUPPORT Filed June 5, 1925 al ke-cue Patented July 31, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO G. HITOHCOCK, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T0 HAYS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
SOAP-DISH SUPPORT.
Application filed June .3, 1925.
My invention relates to means for detachably supporting soap dishes, particularly in connection with water fixtures, and has for its object to provide an improved mounting which will retain the soap dish firmly in position, and yet will permit its instant detachment when desired without the necessity for operating any movable parts.
This object I accomplish in the manner and by the means described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a soap dish mounted upon a conventional mixing faucet.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the soap dish detached.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken through the soap dish and the upper portion of the support. I
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of the socket, member for connecting the soap dish with its support.
Similar-numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views.
In the said drawing the reference numeral 1 denotes a conventional soap, dish formed of porcelain or similar material, the latter being shown in outline. The means for detachably mounting the soap dish upon its support includes a socket member 8 of metal, the same being adapted to be inserted in a recess 4: provided in a central boss 5 formed on the underside ofthe soap dish.
' This socket member 3 is shaped exterior-1y to merge with the exterior configuration of the boss 5, as best seen in Figure 2, and its upper end is provided with a projection 6 preferably squared and provided with grooves 7 cut therein, said grooves in conjunction with the enlarged interior contour of the recess 4, serving firmly to lock said socket member in position with respect to the soap dish,
Serial No. 34,749.
when the sam is inserted therein and fixed by cement 8.
The socket member 3 is formed interiorly with a tapered through opening 9 adapted to receive one end of a similarly tapered plug 10 having a reduced lower-end 11, which is screw-threaded to engage a screwthreaded aperture in the top of the mixing faucet 2, as shown, or in whatever member upon which it is intended to mount the soap dish. The upper end of said plug 10 is l-zerfed at 12 to receive a screw driver, whereby the same may be screwed tightly to position.
In using my improved construction, the socket member 3 is cemented into the apertur 4 in the bottom of the soap dish, and the plug 10 is screwed into posltion in the top of the'mixing faucet 2. Now by disposing the soap dish over the plug 10, said plug will enter the tapered aperture 9 in the socket member 3, and will engage firmly therewith, thus supporting the soap dish rigidly in'position for use, and at the same time providing for its instant removal, by simply lifting the same from said plug.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a soap dish and a socket member secured in a recess in the underside thereof, said socket member having a tapered opening therethrough, of an upstanding plug fixed to a support and tapered to correspond with the taper of said socket member opening, whereby to enter and engage said socket member, the weight of the dish maintaining the socket member in light frictional engagement with the plug, ready for instantaneous removal of the dish.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature OTTO Gr. HITCHCOCK.
