IMPI ROVEMENT IN VENETIAN BLINDS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,889, dated September 21,1875; application filed June 11, 1875.

To all whom it mag concern Be it known that I, TOUSSAINT FUYAT, of Woonsocket, State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Venetian Blinds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,'reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The improvements herein described have reference to that class of window shades or blinds called venetian blinds, in which the several slats A are connected by flexible bands or tapes B, which tapes are also secured to a stationary pivoted slat or strip, 0. All the slats A, therefore, depend from and are supported by the slat G. The blind is raised by means of cords D D passing through the slats and secured to the bottom one, which, raised by the cord in its upward movement, successively raises those above.

My first improvement consists in combining, with the construction named, grooves d d at the sides of the window-frame, which serve as guides to the slats A, which latter have pro jections I), which insert into the grooves.

My second improvement is for the purpose holding them in that position.

I use a rod, F, whose upper end is secured to that strip or slat G from which the blind suspends. The rod may attach directly to the strip 0 or to a lever, e, fixed to or projecting from it. At the lower end of the rod are notches or teeth f, which bear upon a plate, 9', secured to the window-frame.

By moving the rod up or down the piece 0 and the suspended blinds are inclined, and by means of the teeth are held in position.

The rod may bear against the frame in such a manner as to be bent outward, and the tendency of the rod to straighten will then operate to keep the teeth engaged with the plate.

I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with the window-frames having the grooves 61, of the blind, consisting of the slats A, suspended from the piecevG, pivoted to said window-frame and connected with the slats by tapes or bands B, as herein described:

The combination, with the blind consistingof the slats A connected by the tapes B,- and thereby suspended from the piece 0 pivoted to the window-frame, of the .rod B, one end of which is secured to the piece 0, or to an arm, 6, projecting from it, and the other end, by means of notches or teeth f, bearing against a fixture, g, attached to the windowframe, the whole arranged for the purpose of adjusting the slats to any desired angle, as herein set forth.
