ROTARY COMPRESSOR. v 7
Application filed A ril 6, 1927, Serial No. 181,389, and in Switzerland November 23, 1926.
This invention relates to rotary compressors for high pressures; Rotary compressors are already known wherein a sl1'd1ng abutment was provided for dividing the working chamber into two parts and for taking up the pressure occurring in the working chamber, which sliding abutment movably engaged in a longitudinal groove in a cylindrical boss rotatably mounted n the housing of the compressor, but was fixed in the piston of the compressor. It has been found, however, that with thisarrangement it is impossible. to produce high pressures in the compressor as the sliding abutment could not be packed in the groove so as to prevent the passage or compressed gases from the compression space into the suction space. This invention has for its object to obviate this defect; To this end, according to the invention, the slide is arranged radially movable in the piston and is rigidly connected with the boss.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated diagrammatically and by way of example in the accompanying drawlng, whercinz-- Figure 1 is a cross-section, and Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of one form of rotary compressor according to the invention.
Like reference letters designate like parts in both views. Referring to the drawing, a cylindrical piston 2 is mounted eccentrically in a cylindrical housing or casing 1. The
piston 2 is hollow and is traversed eccentrically by a driving shaft 3 journaled eccentrically in relation to the housing 1 in its end walls. This shaft 3 carries within the piston. 2 two eccentrics at which run in bronze bushes 5 rigidly connected with the piston. A boss 6 in'the rorm v of a hollow PATENT OFFICE,
cylindrical body is rotatable about its longitudinal axis in the lower part of the housing 1. A slide 7 a is firmly connected by a tongue and dovetailed groove with the boss '6, and isslidable fluid-tight in a radial recess 8 in the'piston 2. As illustrated, the slide 7 constituting an abutment dividing the working chamber into a compression and suction space, has between its ends a recess extending in the direction of its len for reducing its weight.
It has been found that with the above described construction of rotary compressor, which maybe used for air or other gases, a practically perfect closure can be obtained between the compression space and Actual tests have shown that with this compressorpressures up to 10 atmospheres can be obtained in a single stage without difliculty.
the suction space.
A rotary compressor comprising in combination a cylindrical housing, a cylindrical piston having a radial recess rotatably mounted eccentrically therein, whereby a working chamber is provided between the housing and piston, a cylindrical boss journaled parallel with the longitudinal axis of the housing, in the Wall of the latter, which boss has in its periphery a dovetailed groove extending in the direction of its length, and a sliding abutment that extends fluid-tight at one end into said recess and has at its other end a tongue that fits fluid-tight in said groove, which abutment divides said working chamber into a compression space and a suction space, which spaces are provided each with a port in the wall of the gned at Berne,
