Description

F. SPANIER TooTHPIck Filed April 30, 1926' QZS Oamr On in Patented July 24, 1928.
UNITED STATES FRITZ SPANIER, OF KARLSRUHE, GERMANY.
'rootrrrrrcx.
Application filed April 30, 1926, Serial No.
This invention relates to a toothpick constituted by a handle and a metal blade, having the thickness of ordinary paperand adapted to be inserted between the teeth. The said blade is preferably provided with blunt serrations on one or on both its longitudinal edges. A toothpick of this variety renders it posslble to clean the narrow est gaps between the teeth more easily and 7 more reliably than with toothpioks hitherto known.
Several, constructional examples of the toothpick according to this invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which: 7
Figures 1 and 2 are two elevations of one construction, the toothpick being shown when not in use and when ready for use;
Figures 3 to 5 are details of the body and blade and Figures 6 to 8 illustrate other constructions.
The element used forcleaning the gaps between the teeth is an oblong blade or having the thickness of ordinary paper and 7 preferably made of stainless steel, the longitudinal edges of the'blade being roughened. i
In the construction shown in Figures 1 to 5 the holder is made in two sections 6 and o relatively rotatable about a pin (Z, the section (2 carrying the blade by pins c, on which the blade a is loosely mounted. The various elements being in the position shown in Fig- .ure 7, the blade a, may be removed from the section 0 and replaced by another. When the two sections are in register (Figures 3 and 41-) the pins are covered and the blade is secured. The whole may be then inserted in a case e forming the handle so that the metal blade w is either covered (Figure 1) or is in the position of use (Figure 2). The other end of the case is closed by a member 7", and thus the case may be used to hold spare blades.
In the construction shown in Figures 6 to 8 the holder is also made in two sections 0 and .72. relatively rotatable about a pin a? 105,846, and in Germany October 31, 1925.
other. When the two sections 0 and h are n register (Figures 6 and 7 they may be inserted so deep in a case e, that the blade 1 is prevented from rotation by the side walls of the case e. Ahusk g is adapted for insertion of the case 6 with the blade holder in two opposite directions (Figures 6 and 7), thus ooveringthe blade a (Fig. 6) or forming a handle (Fig. 7) when using the toothpick. The interior of the case 0 may be used to hold spare blades.
I claim:
1. A toothpick comprising a holder consisting of two sections relatively rotatable around a pin connecting said sections, a fine metal blade, having the thickness of a sheet of paper and roughened edges, removablysecured to one of said sections, a case having a cross. section fitting to that of the two sections ofthe holder when in register, said ease carrying the holder with the blade and forming ahandle when using the toothpick.
2. Atoothpick comprising a holder consisting of two sections relatively rotatable around a pin connecting said sections, a line metal blade, having the thickness of a sheet of paper loosely sitting on pins of one of said sections, a case for insertion of the holder when the two sections are in register, a husk carrying said case with the holder in either" of two opposite positions.
3. A toothpick comprising a holder consisting of two sections relatively rotatable around a pin connecting said sections, a line metal blade, having the thickness of a sheet of paper loosely sitting on one pin of one of said sections, a case for insertion of the holder when the two sections are in register, the sidewalls of said case preventing the blade from rotation around said pin, a husk carrying said case withthe holder in either of two opposite positions.
4:. A toothpick including a holder consisting of two parts, a fine metal blade having the approximate thickness of a sheet oi? paper interchangeably held by the parts of said holder, a case having a cross section fitting that of the. two parts of the holder when in register, said case carrying said holder with the blade and forming a handle when using the toothpick.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signa ture.
