paper, or. any other suitable material, and. having a lower straight edgecor, baseupon whichthe device stands, andrhaving. vertically disposed, hinged, pleated or foldable portions to enable folding of the. device,
those portions of the device intermediate the hinged parts being provided with lateral tab like members to receive-printed or advertising matter.
A further object ofthepresent invention is to provide in a device oftlie character above described cut-away portions in the hinged parts to receive or accommodate the tabs when the device is in .foldedonknockdown position.
A still further object of the present inventionis to provide adevice as above recited in which the face of the device may be of any desired color,'and in which the lateral cut out tabs may be of a. I contrasting 7 color if desired in order to provide a neat, and attractive appearance.
A still further objectof the present in-' vention is to arrangeuponopposite sides of each pair of hingedparts'vertically disposed members, which carry the tabs :before mentioned and the merging portion of the memher and tabs form a suitable space to receiveadvertising.
A still further object of thepresent inventioncresides in theprovision of general details of construction and in. the arrangement and combination of parts for attaining theresults sought bythe foregoing objects.
The invention consists ofsthe novel construction hereinafter described and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and vertisingdevice embodyingthe invention.

Fig. 6, is a face view rof a still further modified form of the invention.
For thelpurpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings several forms thereof which are at present preferredby me, since the same have been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalitiesof which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is notlimited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
In the drawings, and referring now niore particularly to Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, the device, generally stated,.comprisesa onepiece member of thin material, as cardboard, thick paper, pasteboard, or the like, havin a horizontal bottom edge or. base with a p lurality of spaced upright ribs arranged at right angles to said bottom edge and extendedthroughout the height of the mom-- ber. Extended laterally from these ribs are the tabs which jointly'with' the ribs form spaces to receive printed or advertisingmatter. Between the ribs are hinge portions cutout to accommodate the tabs when the deviceis in folded position, and these hinge portions "when slightly folded, as shown in.
Fig. 1, position the parts at the base of the device, so that the same is relatively rigid and will stand upright without the employment of extraneous supportingmeans.
Having thus generally described the device, a detail description thereof will now be given. 1 designates a one-piece member ofithin material as cardboard, pasteboard, thick paper or the like, the base line or lower edge 2,.see Fig. 2, being horizontally disposed and being a straight edge. It is to be noted that theends of the device, designated bythe reference numeral 8, are also straight and'are arranged at rightangles tothe base line2. at. designates a. plurality of vertically disposed ribs, see Fig. i, which ribs are spaced apart and extend throughout the height of the device. In order to provide a pleasing appearance the top edge of the member 1 is so cut or scalloped as to provide an ornamental effect. 5 designates one type of ornamentation. In order further to provide an ornamental appearance, the top edge of the member 1 caused to taper so that one end of lesser height than the other end. Therefore, all of the ribs 1 are not of the same height but are graduated in accordance with the taper of the top edge of the member 1. The ribs 1 carry opposed, laterally disposed, integral tabs 6, the front surface of the ribs a merging with the surface of the tabs 6, so as to provide advertising space 7 see Fig. 1. Connecting the ver tical ribs a: are the vertical hinge parts 8, so that the member 1 may be folded into compact form when desired. These hinge parts are best seen in Figs. 5 and 1, and each hinge part is cut away at 9 to accommodate the tabs 6 when the member 1 is in folded or knock-down position, as seen in Fig. 2.
The front surface of the device, that is, the hinge parts and ribs, may be of some suitable color or have a design delineated thereof, and the advertising space 7 as contained upon the tabs 6 may if desired be of a contrasting color, so that a striking, unique, neat, and attractive appearance may be obtained. The advertising space 7 may have printed thereon suitable symbols of advertising, as for instance letters 15, portraying the word radio, or the advertising space 7 may have attached thereto or printed or embossed thereon advertising symbols of any desired form.
The device is capable of being knocked down and folded up for convenience of storing and shipment. Referring now particularly to Fig. 2, it is to be noted that when the hinge parts 8 are in folded position one complete set of tabs 6 projects laterally with respect to the folded member 1, and the opposed set of tabs 6 is accommodated within the alternate cut-away portions 9. Thus, the ribs 4 and hinge parts 8 lie flatwise upon one another and the forwardly projected series of tabs 6 also lie fiatwise upon one another so that the entire folded arrangement of parts provides a very compact package for either storing or shipping purposes.
Referring now to the modified form shown in Fig. 5, the general-structure is the same as that previously described. However, the ribs a carry tabs 10 of slightly different shape than those previously described and are arranged along a line paralleling the base line. The top edge also differs in that the two ends 11 are of the same height and that the opposite top edges converge downwardly to the vertical center line 12 of the device. This, of course, causes the ribs *1 to be of gradually decreasing height as they near the center line 12. The top edge of the device is cutaway at 13 to provide an ornamental appearance.
Referring now to the structure as dis closed in Fig. 6, the upper edge of the device is curved or convex or formed upon an arc of a circle as at 14, so that the general effect is that of a semi-circular configuration. That arrangement again changes the appearance of the ribs at in that the height of the ribs increase as they near the center line of the device. The construction and arrangement of the tabs 10 is the same as that disclosed in Fig. 5. The tabs 7 are shown as arranged in alignment but that they may be difierently arranged if desired.
It will be apparent that while my novel device is preferably made integral or out of a single piece of material, it can with equal facility be made out of a plurality of pieces of material suitably secured together by any suitable means.
If desired, the shapes of the tabs 7 can be changed and said tabs can be arranged in staggered order or in any other position desired. The sheets seen in Figures 1, 5 and 6 can be made of any desired size as for display devices on a counter or the like, or they may be made very much larger to occupy a full window space.
Any suitable material can be employed in the construction of my device and if desired, I may make the same of very thin sheet metal or the like.
I am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and I therefore desire the present embodiment to be considered in all respects as illustrative, and not restrictive, reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device for advertising and display purposes comprising a one-piece member of thin material having a horizontal bottom edge, a plurality of spaced ribs arranged at right angles to said bottom edge and extending vertically throughout the height of said device, laterally disposed aligning tabs on said ribs to form advertising receiving spaces, and hinge portions arranged between adjacent ribs, said hinge portions being cut away to accommodate said tabs when the device is in folded position.
2. A. device for advertising and display purposes, comprising a one-piece member of thin material having a horizontal bottom edge and an upper serrated edge, a plurality of spaced ribs arranged at right angles to said bottom edge and extending vertically throughout the height of said device, laterally disposed aligning tabs on said ribs to form advertisingreceiving spaces, and hinge portions arranged between adjacent ribs, said hinge portions being cut away to acoommodate said tabs when the device is in folded position.
3. A device for advertising and display purposes comprising a one-piece member of thin material, having a horizontal bottom edge, a plurality of spaced ribs arranged at right angles to said bottom edge and extend ing vertically throughout the height of said device, a plurality of rows of laterally disposed aligning tabs on said ribs to form advertising receiving spaces, and hinge portions arranged between adjacent ribs, said hinge portions being cut away to accommodate said tabs whenthe device is in folded position, the arrangement of parts being CHARLES A.
