IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINATION SHELL-JOINTS.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNc. 167,845, dated September 21, 1875; application filed August 31, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORTON O. LITTLE, of Sheboygan Falls, county of Sheboygan and State of Wisconsin, have invented an Improved Oombination Shell-Joint.
The following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawings hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification, wherein are set forth the nature and principles of the invention, by
which the same may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts thereof as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States.
My invention relates to that class of devices which are made use of for coupling or connecting the pitman and the sickle-bar of mowingand reaping machines; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, and novel combinations of parts hereinafter described.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, in vwhich corresponding parts are designated by similar letters, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the coupling. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
The arm A is provided with a concave cup, on, for the reception of the concavo-convex piece B. The said arm A is provided with a part, 0, which is hinged thereto. Upon the end of the said part c is the semi-spherical projection D which fits Within the concave part of the piece B. A book, E, provided with a wedge-shaped point, is pivoted to the said part 0 and combined with a spring, H, by means of which the said point is forced through a loop or staple, I, which is rigidly attached to the arm A, and passes upward through an aperture cut for its reception in the said part (J.- The office of the wedgeshaped point of the hook is to hold the coacting parts together.
The operation of the invention will be understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention relates without further description.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- A coupling consisting of the arm A, provided with a concave cup, a, the concavo-convex piece B, the part 0 with a hook, E, and spring H, and the loop I, all combined together as and for the purposes described.
