Description

HED STATES BUEL F. BARTLETT, or DUNKIRK, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LUBRICATING COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,730, dated September 14, 1875; application filed July 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, BUEL F. BARTLETT, 0 Dunkirk, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Lubricating Oom pounds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The nature of my invention consists in a Inbricating compound, composed of lard or other oil, rock-salt, and chittings or sulphur, in about the following proportions: One gallon of lard or other oil suitable for lubricating purposes; five pounds rock-salt; three pounds of sulphur.
These ingredients are thoroughly mixed, and the mixture'allowed to stand until the salt is perfectly dissolved in the oil, when it may be placedin suitable vessels and is ready for use. It is applied withcotton-waste or other suitable material, in the usual manner for such compounds.
The salt, when dissolved in the oil, renders it less liable to evaporization, and imparts beneficial lubricating qualities to the compound.
I do not confine myself to the exact proportions of the ingredients mentioned, asthey may, perhaps, be varied according to the class of machinery on which the compound is to be used.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The lubricating compound composed of the ingredients and in the proportions as follows: One gallon lard or other oil, five pounds rocksalt, and three pounds of sulphur, all in the manner and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BUEL F. BARTLETT. Witnesses:
CHAS. A. SMITH, ERASTUS O. WILLIAMS.
