IMPROVEMENT IN FARE-REGISTERS.

My invention relates so that dass of fareregisters whioh are provided with an alarm, and designed for use in horse-oars, omnibuses, &o.; and oonsists in a novel oonstruotion and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully 'set forth and olaimed, by whioh a simpler,

cheaper, and more effeotzive devioe of this oharaoter is produoecl than is 110Wl11 ordinary use.

In the drawing, A represents the oase, whioh is designed o be oonstructed of metal, and provicled With a suitable cover ancl look. Within the oase there is an ordinary burglaralarm meohanisno, oonsisting of the bell E striking lever D, springs F L, and esoapemen tlever G, provided with the tnmblingpawl I, all mounted on the plate B, and for whioh, in themselves Considerecl, no novelty is olaimed. The wheel is provided. around the edge Wit1h a series of numbers o1 figures f1om 1 to 60, whioh show in regnlar suooession through the noteh R in the plate Q, as tl1e wheel is revolved. Proje'oting fronn ehe inner side of the wheel O, near its periphery, there is a stucl or pin, Y, whioh interseots at eaoh revolution of the wheel with one of the plus X on the wheel W, whioh is also journaled on a stud projeoting from the case near the wheel O. The wheel W is conneoted loy 1neans of a sleeve o1 box with a oiroular plate, U, arranged above the plane of tl1e wheel O, in such a manner that both are rotated oonjointly. The platze U is provided around its edge with numbers fron1 0 to 13, after the manner of the wheel O, whioh numbers may be seen as the plate revolves through the slot T in tl1e fixed clisk S, mounted on the Same stud with the wheel W. A pull or string, V, passing through the oase is attaol1ed 130 the outer end of the lever G, and jointed to tl1e same lever between the string and pawl I there is a pawl, K, working in oonneotion With the wheel O, being kept in oontaot therewith loy tl1e oontraotile aotion ot' the spring M. In the use of my innproved register iv is plaoed. in any oonvenient position on 01 Wl'hill the vehiele wl1ere tl1e fares or tiokes are 110 be registered, the string V being oarried within easy reac'zh of tl1e eonduotor or driver. As eaoh fare is haken, or onoe for eaoh fare o1 tioket, the string is pulled, oausing the hammer 1) of the lever O 110 strike the hell, giving an alar1n, and also eausing the wheel O to rotate ehe spaoe of one tooth by means of the pawl K. It Will be obvious that the wheel O should have the same nnmber of teeth that: it: has numbers or figures, and that when it has advanoed one entire revolution the pin or stud Y will be brought into oontaot With one of the plus X, oausing the wheel W to robate a distance equal 110 the spaoe between any two of the numbers on the plate U, the spaees betzween ehe numbers 011 said plate and the distanoe between the teeth on the wheel W being ooinoident. The wheel O is designed 130 register any number of fares up 130 sixty, but when, in il:s rotations, the number 60 appears through the notoh R, the pin Y oomes into oontact w ith one of the plus X 011 the wheel W, oausing one of the numbers 011 the plate U to appear through ehe notch T.

In setting the register for use ab the encl of the mute tl1e wheels should always be left in such a position that the figure 1 Will show through tl1e notoh R, and the naught (O) through he noooh T, then when the figures 60 appear through the notol1 R as the wheel 0 advances, the pin Y will move the wheel W 011e spaee, bringing the figure 1 into view I employed without departing fr0n1 the spi1io of thlough the notch T and also the figure 1 through the notch R, indicating that 61 fares hzwe been taken. It Will be obvious that the number showing through not-ches T and R Will ab any time correculy indicate the number 0f fares whicl1 have been ta-ken during the trip, or nhe number 0f times the alarm has been struck.
