A. F. LADWIG COMBINATION HANGER Filed Aug; sf 192 s Fig. J.
Patented July 10,192
.AM O S r. 'LAnWre, or wArnnriod-rowag ooM mArIon HANGER.
Application filed August a. 1925. Serial Iva-49,027.
My invention pertains to improvements in combination hangers, and the object of'my improvement is to supply a device of this class which combines different and associ- 5 ated elements, which elements may be used as bracket hangers or otherwise as desired and of which certain are foldable or removable for convenience when not in use, or to be stored or packaged forcarriage. v
Vith the above and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter apparent the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of-what is" claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention,
In said drawings, Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the device, showing the main bracket hanger extended, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof, but showing the main bracket 'hanger swung back parallel with its supporting wall plate.
7 The device contains a supporting vertically disposed wall plate 1, having its lower diminished end shaped into an upwardly and forwardly bent hook 16.. The plate 1 has pressed out medial and apertured bearing lugs 4 and 15, the latter being a pair of spaced forwardly projecting like lugs whose apertures are in alinement vertically with the bearing aperture in the upper bearing lug 4 to receive the rockable vertical shaft part 6 of an integral wire rod 7-2 whose members are substantially parallel in the greater extent of their lengths and also horizontal to project forwardly when extended. This rod is resilient but. should be of stiffness sufficient to permit it to bear a suspended weight within its designed limit without deflection.
The lower member 2 has a terminal eye 3 mounted loosely about the lower end part of the shaft member 6. The upperlug 4 has a vertically disposed termination having a medial rectangular notch 5 to receive and hold the abutting part of the bracket member 7 when the member is extended as shown in Fig. 1. 1
The outer angles of the lug 4 are rounded in order to facilitate the sliding movement thereover of the member 7 in order to swingingly extend it from its retracted position shown in Fig. 2 to its extended position shown in Fig. for the 'member 7 yields elastically upwardly when some sufiicient pressure is applied to its lower end thus permitting it to rise and clear the lugcorner before-being dropped into the notch 5 lniextended position, for the eye 3 of the bracket lower member 2 is stopped by the upper'one of the lower pair of lugs 15.
The outer ends of the members 7, and 2 ,are integral with a vertically. disposed part 8. The rod may be shaped by bending so as to provide its upper part 7 with upwardly directedlooped standards as at 14 Where the loop is provided with a half turn twist at,
its base which rendersit stiff, while the outer standard 10 has a-similar twist at 9 to likewise impart stiffness and tie its parts together unyieldingly, the upper terminal oif! 1tile loop being slightly bent forwardly An auxiliary hanger bracket 25 of arouate'shape,'horizontal and forwardly projecting, is removably supported upon the upper part of the wall plate 1. This bracket is shaped from a somewhat lighter rod than the rod bracket 7 2. It is twisted at points 28 at each side toprovide upstanding ears or short looped standards 24 and downwardly directed parts 22 the rod being then bent inwardlyslopingly at 21 and again to provide vertical parts, then again being bent to provide shouldered ,rearwardly directed parts 26, thence being bent downwardly into the pair of terminal stems 20.
Each stem 20 is removably mounted in bearing apertures in vertically alined lugs 17 and 18 pressed forwardly from the wall plate 1, the upper lug 18 having an upward- 1y directed and medially notched 'termmation to interlock with the part 26 of the bracket 25.
The main bracket 72, in its upper length.
or reach may have its part 12 alined with the part -7 if desired.
The terminal hook 16 of the plate 1 may receive loops of garments or other things. The various standards 11, 14 and 24 are used as hangers for concave objects or to engage certain parts of garments'or other things whose main portions are supported upon either or both of the brackets 25 and 7 -2, whether in certain cases the bracket 7-2 is extended or retracted against awall or a supporting structure asthe inside of a cabiiet, closet or other inclosure, or a wall or oor.
Neckties or other garments may be draped suspendingly upon the 'upperbrackct 25,
thence over or upon the bracket 7-2, and
when the latter is retracted against the wall,
will hold the lower parts of the suspended articles between the bracket 77-2 and the Wall to clear other objects, yet be available for easy and ready removal; The looped standards 14 and 11, as also the standards i 24: may be used to loop diflferent portions or apertured parts of garmentsupon Whose main bodies are supported withoutereasing "upon one or both of said brackets.
Havmg described my invention, What I. -cla1m as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of the character described,
comprisinga vertically disposed and elongated back-plate, said plate havinga'plurality of pressed-out apertured bearing-lugs,
a bracket-hanger consisting of an elasticrod bent to have an end-member serve'as a rockshaft and seated loosely in sald bearing-lugs, said rod having end-connected substantially parallelreachesand having at its other end .a terminal eye mounted loosely upon said shaft part andengagedbetween two lower bearing-lugs, and engaging means upon the sisting of an ela-stic rod bent at dilferent placesto provide vertically spaced horizontal bracket part-s connected at their outer ends by a vertical strut part, the upper bracket part having an end part depending rockably through the upper bearing and also tl'irough the lower bearing, an aperturedstop on said supporting body spaced above the lower bearing andalso traversed bysaid end part of the upper bracket part thelovver bracket part havinga terminal eye posif tioned between-said stopand the lower bearing'and, also traversed by said end part of the upper bracket part,-and a,pluralityof upwardly projecting engaging devices ;upon
the upper bearing for-the upperbracket' part. a
In testimony WhereofI aflix'my signature.
