1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in mops, and the principal object of my improvements is to supply a convenient holder for a mop swab, whereby the swab may be quickly mounted therein, and as speedily demounted from the holder.
Another object of my improvements is to preferably construct the whole holder, including its swab securing means integral therewith, of elastic material throughout.
Another object of my improvements is the provision of flexible coacting embracing arms within the holder for releasable end connection with each other, to coact with an apertured cross member within the holder and traversed by one arm, whereby the middle reach of a swab strip may be removably nested in the holder as supported by said embracing devices.
Another object of my improvements is to shape the outer end parts of said arms for flexible anchoring connections to the inner faces medially of the end walls of the holder to coact with said apertured cross member in clamping parts of the swab securely completely within the holder, releasably lockably.
All of these objects I have accomplished by the means which are hereinafter fully illustrated and described, and also claimed.
Fig. 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of the holder as releasably mounted on one end of a mop stick, broken away, and showing the coacting supporting and securing devices within the holder, end-connected, with the pair of arms thereof disconnected and depending, as also shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a top plan of the holder only. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of the holder displaying the end-connected arms and medial supporting cross-strip or band therein. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the holder, showing the disconnected depending arms with a medial portion of the longer arm broken away. Fig. 5 is a similar elevation of the holder to that shown in Fig. l, with a side wall broken away, and also showing a flexible swab member, medially folded upon itself doubly and as releasably secured within the holder partially by means of the interconnected arms and medial transverse supporting band,
Referring nrst to Fig. l, the numeral 4 denotes one end of a mop stick as seated within a fitting neck 3 of elastic rubber or other suitable material, the neck expanding downwardly to provide a laterally elongated downwardly cupped holder l. The upper end of the neck 3 is terminally outwardly rimmed at 32, while the lower end part of the cupped holder l is terminally outwardly rimmed at 2, for reinforcements. A medial transverse elastic band 5, medially apertured has its ends made integral with the opposite inner front and rear walls of the holder and is located a distance above the lower rim of said holder.
Referring to Figs. l and 3, the numerals and l denote elastic arms whose outer terminations tb and 'lb are somewhat thickened and united to the end inner walls of the holder dependingly as shown in Fig. l, while the arm 6 is preferably longer than the arm l. rlhe arm E may be passed through an aperture 50. in the band 5 to extend therebeyond, and as shown in Fig, 3, is terminally diminished at its free end where it has a detented or spadiform head 6a. The shorter arm 1 is of even width throughout and has an oblong terminal aperture la. As the arm 6 is elastically flexible, its spadiform head 6a may be twisted about rectangularly and passed through the aperture la then turned backward to the interlocked positions of the arm terminations as shown in Fig. 3, terminally. The Fig. 5 shows an elongated textile mop strip 3 which may be medially folded after one end is projected into the hollow of the holder I to one side of the cross band 6, before the two arms E and 'l are terminally connected, then passed across the band into the opposite part of the holder. The medial loop of the strip 8 is drawn downwardly at one side of the holder, as shown in Fig. 5 so that the medial loop is opposed to the depending end parts of the strip. Then the headed arm E may have its spurred extremity a passed through the slot 5a in the cross band 5, and as shown in Fig. l have the part 6a passed through the slot la in the shorter arm l, to bind the engaged parts of the swab 8 firmly about the swab. A similar set of arms for like coactions at 6 and l, are shown and claimed in my pending application Serial No. 337,159, filed May 25, 1940. The swab 8 may be released by separating the arms 6 and 1.
I claim:
In a mop device, in combination, an elongated rubber cup having a top wall with an upwardly directed hollow neck to receive therein an end of a fitting handle, the cup having spaced parallel side walls and spaced parallel end walls, the cup having also a medial cross partition medially apertured, thickened. angular shoulders spaced within the end inner walls and depending. and having arm parts of less thickness than the shoulders, the arm parts being of different lengths with the longer arm part having a spadiform termination and the shorter arm part having an elongated terminal slot, and an elongated swab folded upon itself with its folded parts passed transversely through the inner space of the cup at opposite sides of the partition medially to depend from the cup, the longer arm traversing the aperture of the partition. and whereby the spadiform end part thereof may be inserted through the said terminal slot of the shorter arm and then twisted angularly to releasably lock the arms together terminally under the swab.
