UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIG'E.
EDWARD HUBER, OF MARION, orrro.
IMPROVEMENT m ROAD-SCRAPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,668, dated September 14, 1875; application filed July 31,1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD HUBER, of Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Road Scraper, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view, and Fig. 2 a side view, of my improved road-scraper, and Figs. 3 and 4, respectively, a detail view and a vertical section on the line 0 c, Fig. 1, of the locking springcatches.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
horizontal lugs afiixed to the sides of the body of the scraper, thus allowing the latter to revolve and discharge its contents.
In the drawing, A represents a scraper of the usual construction, to which the bail G is attached by being bent at the ends into loop shape, the loops 0. to fit over side lugs or pins a of the scraper. The handle-frame B is pivoted to the ends of the loop ends of the bail. Handle-frame B is provided at each side with a strong spring-catch, D, that is stiffened by a side stay, I), and provided with projecting lugs d, that catch by their intermediate groove d over side ribs E of scraper A.
This operation is made practicable by means I of the lugs 11 being attached to .or formed on the catches D in a relatively diagonal position. Hence, while the backward-sliding movement of the handles B carries each of the upper lugs cl beyond or out of contact with the contiguous rib E, the under lug remains in contact with said rib and supports the loaded scraper, While the rear end is being elevated to cause it to revolve.
The spurs e at the back of the scraper catch in the ground and complete the revolution, so that the spring-catches will look again on the ribs of the scraper, making the sameready for continuing the work.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In combination with the body A of the scraper, having the horizontal side ribs E, the spring-catches D, having the lugs d d arranged as specified, and the bail 0, having looped end, and handles B B attached thereto above the pivotsa, all as shown and described, to operate as specified.
EDWARD HUBER.
