My invention relates to electrical fixtures and more particularly to a casing or husk for a switchl mechanism.
It is a purpose of my invention to provide an enclosure for a switch mechanism that is provided with an opening in the side wall'thereof through which the conductors may be led into the fixture and an opening in one end thereof through which a switch operating mechanism extends, said switch operating mechanism preferably comprising an operating member extending endwise beyond said enclosure. The enclosure .is preferably in the form of a husk of porcelain or other insulating material, although this may not always be the case.
The switch mechanism lmay be of any kind and may be mounted in any suitable manner. In referring to switch. mechanism in this specification I am not referring merely to the switching means comprising the contact members, but the entire mounting for the switch mechanism. It is a further purpose of my invention to provide co-operat- 25 ing means on the switch mechanism within the enclosure and said enclosure for preventy ing relative rotational movement of the switch mechanism in the enclosure.
It is still a further purpose of the invention to provide suitable means for securing the electrical fixture, comprising the enclosure member, to a suitable tubular member or conduit, such as is usually used in fixtures of this character, the said' enclosure member bein secured to the tubular member at the side wall portion thereof. *Said means preferably comprises an angular bracket which is secured to the end wall port1on of the enclosure or casing and which is 40. provided with a suitable opening through which the conductors leading from the tubular member may pass which is substantially aligned with the side opening in said enclosure 'memben Preferably, the enclosure member is provided with a. recess in the end wall thereof for receiving a portion of this bracket and with a groove leading from said recess to the opening in the side wall thereof to receive the portion of the bracket extending from the end of said member to the opening in the side wall thereof.
It is still another purpose-of the invention to provide a device of the above mentioned character with an internal shoulder for reor depending therefrom, the switch operating means being of such a nature that the efficiency thereof will be as great in one position as in another and the appearance of the entire device will be as .pleasing in one position thereof as in another.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the description of the accompanying drawings proceeds. However, I desire to have it distinctly understood that I do not intend-to limit myself to the exact details shown or described but that I intend to include as part of my invention all such obvious changes and modifications of parts as would occur to a person skilled in this art and as would fall within the scope o f the claims.

Referring in detail to the drawings, in Flg. 1 is shown a wall vbracket member having a conduit l() provided with a. threaded end portion 11 which is screw-threadedly received in a suitable opening in the bracket member' 12 secured to a suitable support 13, such as a Wall. in any suitable manner. The member 1() may be of any desired material but is ordinarily of nickel plated tubing where the device is used as a bathroom fixture to harmonize with the other batliioom fixtures. An enclosure member or bell 14 is provided which is clamped against the wall by means of the flanged sleeve 15 which is held in position by the set screw 16 in the usual manner. The member 14 is preferably of porcelain when the device is used for a bathroom fixture. The outer end of the tube or conduit 10 is threaded as indicated at 17 which is adapted to receive the nternally screwthreaded nipple 18 provided on the bracket member 19 which is secured to the end portion 20 of the housing or switch mechanism enclosure 21 by means of the screws 22. 'lhe housing 21 is provided with a longitudinal bore 23 for receiving the member carrying the switch mechanism. The switch mechanism is preferably supported upon a pair of suitable insulators 24 which together form an insulating housing for the switch mechanism. The screw shell terminal 25 is mounted in any suitable manner on said members 24 and is suitably connected with the switch mechanism. rl`he member 21 is provided with a passage or bore 26 extending from the end 20 thereof to the bore 23 and forming an internal shoulder 27 against which the members 24 are adapted to be clamped, the clamping being accomplished by means of the screwthreaded nut or clamping member 28 that screwthreadedly' engages with the screwthreaded nipple 29 extending from the switch mechanism through the opening 26. rIhe member 29 also serves as a housing for the switch operating member which is preferably actuated by means of the lever 30, the lever 30 being shown in Fig. 1 in its normal position and in Fig. 2 in the posit-ion which it assumes when the switch is actuated. A fibre washer 3l, is preferably interposed between the nut or clamping member 28 and the bracket 19.

In the case of a bathroom fixture it is preferably of porcelain to conform with the member 14 and with the other bathroom fixtures. The member 21 is further provided with an opening in the side wall thereof, said opening be-ing indicated by the numeral 32, and is further provided with a recess 33 surrounding the opening 26 at the end 20 thereof for receiving the substantially circular portion 34 of the member 19. A groove is 21 may be made of any suitalso providedat 35 which leads from the recess 33 to the opening 32 and receives the portion of the bracket 19 leading from the circular end 34 to the upstanding portion 36 thereof to which the member 18 is secured in any suitable manner as by means of the upset annular flange portion 37 extending through the opening 38 in the portion 36. Thus, the member 19 is concealed from view in the groove and recesses referred to.
After the member 18 is screwed into position on the tubing 10, the same is secured in this position thereon by means of a set screw 39. rl`he conductors 40, leading to the switch mechanism, extend from the conduit or tube 10 through the opening 41 in the member 18 and through the opening 32 to the switch mechanism. The housing or enclosure member 21 is also provided with a recess 42 surrounding a portion of the opening 32 for receiving the members 36 and 18. Thus, the only portions of the device that project beyond the contour of the member 21 are the member 10 and the member 18 at the side thereof, the nut 28 and the operating lever 3() at one end thereof and the bulb or lamp 43 at the other end thereof, thus making a very neat and attract-ive fixture.l
It will be seen from Fig. 1 that with the lever operated switch mechanism with the lever arranged substantially in axial alignment with the screw shell terminal 25, the fixture can be arranged either in the full line or dotted line position shown in Fig. 1 without in any way detracting from the appearance thereof or without in any way affecting the efficiency ofthe switch'operating mechanism.
ln order to prevent relative rotation between the switch mechanism as a whole and the housing or enclosure member 21, a projection 44 is provided on the member 21 which is adapted to seat in a suitable recess 45 provided between the members 24. Thus, the arrangement of the recess and projection will hold the parts against rotation and hold the opening through which the conductors 40 pass from the switch mechanism in substantial ali nment with the opening 32 and the conduit or tubing 10, thus preventing any possible damage to the wires by anytwisting of the socket when the lamp 43 is inserted. The entire switch mechanism is firmly clamped in position in the housing 21 by means of the nut 28 and, due to the construction of the bracket 19 and the corresponding construction of the housing or enclosure member 21, there can be no relative rotation of the housing and bracket, the bracket being substantially held in fixed position by means of the screws 22 when the member 34 is seated in the recess 33 due to the fact that the other parts of the bracket are mounted in the groove 35 and the recess 42.
