My invention relates to improvements in pressure siphons and more particularly to siphons for use in operating rooms of hospi' tals.
The principal object of my invention is to provide means that will remove by suction the small quantity of liquids, such as puss, blood and antiseptic Washes, that accumulate, particularly in the folds of the intestines, during an operation.
Another object of my invention is toprovide a siphon whose design permits of economical construction; due to its being made in two parts it is'possible to cheaply and with accuracy machine and position the jet and throat passageway.
I accomplish the above objects by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings,

Referring to the drawings throughout which like reference numerals indicate like parts, 4 designates the siphon assembly which consists of the body 5 and discharge ti 6.
The body member 5 is T shaped, the upsecured thereinto the suction tube 7 and the jet 8. The tube is encircled at its upper end by the annular grooves 10 thuspermitting the easy attachment of suction hose 11. A short tube 12, made of material easily sterilized, is inserted in the end of hose 11.
The horizontal arm of body 5 is formed as the female part of a union which with the male member 14 and the gland 15 provide a convenient means for removing the siphon for repairs'or adjustment.
Member 14 may be connected to a source of water under pressure in any convenient manner. I have indicated a pipe coupling 15and lock nut 16 to secure supply pipe 17 in position and it in turn supports the si-: phon in proper position.
Discharge tip 6 is attached to body 5 by a threaded joint as illustrated in Figure 1. This detail of construction is very important in my device as it permits the installation and exact location of the lower or discharge end of jet 8, enables me to finish the outside with the :most eflicient bevel and further enables me to finish the bore 18 with a taper counterbore 19 that will most efliclently coact with the jet 8 to create the maximum vacuum. In most installations the usually too small to conveniently receive the siphon and I have found it most practical to imbed a metal sump, as 20 with the perforated cover 21. A hole 22 is provided for drain sump is the entrance of the water supply pipe in the sump 20. Thecover 21 is the usual type of perforated cover except that a central hole 23 is provided just sufliciently large to easily admit the suction hose 11. The siphon assembly is so positioned as to bring the suction tube7 on the vertical axis of the sump and locate the upper end of tube 7 just bBlOW the cover where it will be safe from injury yet will permit the easy attachment of the suction hose.
The water supply is controlled by a valve in pipe 17 which is placed at some convenient point nearthe operating table.
To operate my invention, water under pressure is turned into the supply pipe 17,
directed around the jet 8 and is discharged through chose 18 of tips 6. The speed of the water in passing downward through body 5 and hose 18 creates a draft or suction in jet 8. .The amount of suction, with the water pressure remainingnormal, will depend on the proportion of the water supply passage, the clearance between the end of jet 8 and counter bore 19, the hose 1S and also on the length of jet 8 and length of counterbore 19.
A suction hose 11 which is characterized by its heavy side walls, is attached to the grooved end of suction tube7 by passing it through thehole 23 in cover 21. The open end of the sterilized tip 12 is then immersed in the liquid to be removed then as soon as the air is exhausted from hose 11 the waste fluid as blood, puss or Wash waters will then be drawn through the hose and discharged from tip 6 in the sewer pipe.
The foregoing description and accompanying drawings clearly disclose a pre ferred embodiment of my invention, but it will be understood that this disclosure is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope and spirit of the following claim.
