IMPROVEMENT IN FRUIT-DRIERS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,549, dated September 7, 1875; application filed August 5, 12575.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, DANIEL S. LOWMAN and HENRY T. OREPs, of Leitersburg, in the county of Washington and State of Maryland, have invented a certain new and useful Domestic Fruit-Drier; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which the figure is a perspective view of our invention.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved fruit-drier to be used in connection with an ordinary cook-stove, so that the heat used for cooking may at the same time be utilized for drying fruit; and consists in the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described, and specifically set forth in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A A A represent the boxes for holding the fruit. These boxes are of wood, and are provided with metal corner pieces a a, which serve to strengthen them and prevent them from warping. They are also provided with wire-gauze bottoms, as shown, so as to allow the air and heat to circulate freely through the fruit. The said boxes are mounted on a metal frame consisting of the main pieces B B, the lower ends of which serve as legs for the whole, the crosspieces 0 G, and the bottom pieces D D, on which the boxes A A rest. The pieces B B are bent up and over, as shown, so as to form an elevated portion on which the box A rests, as shown.
The operation of the drier is as follows: The frame is placed under a stove, with the lower or front part fitting under the firebox and the back part under the oven. The boxes, being filled with fruit, are placed in their proper positions, and the heat from the stove speedily dries the fruit.
We claim- The combination, with the frame B O D, havin g the tray-racks in different horizontal planes and in the relative position shown, so as to 00- cupy the space below the oven and fire-box of a cooking-stove, of the removable trays A A A substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
