'Irwin a. Warszawa, :or avanza .Mrssovnr assrenoe'or nummer. T10 Canaan sumaron-s y einen? `implication niedsep''muer 2,1927. lsanarNo'.ernaast# I Mly invention consists in the novel construction and combination of'parts hereinafter particularly described and distinctly claimed. y
lFhe object of my invent-ion is to provide a new article of manufacture which consists of a new and improved surveyo1"s'apron,y and which is to be worn bysurveyors, and' which apifcxi,4 when-rin usenl will provide a* more cox'iverrient way or means of carrying the tools and other.necessary-afrticl'esl that zr person engaged in surveyingrworkr has to usef-rl M Heretofore, a person engaged in this form of work found it necessary to carry all of his tool such as a plumb-bob, marking tool, rule, location-tacks, and other such small articles as are common in this line of work, in his pockets in his clothes, and the latter soon became worn out due to the weight and constant wear of the above named articles in the persons pockets.
A further object of my invention is to provide a surveyors apron which will accommodate all these articles, and which will also be very simple in construction, durable in wear, and which will be of a very low cost to manufacture.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my improved surveyors apron, showing each ofthe component parts in position, and
Fig. 2 is a section of same, the section being taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the numeral 1 designates the apron which is made of leather orother vsuitable material upon which is secured a suitable pocket 2 which is adapted to receive a plumb-bob 3 when the latter is not in use, and which may be carried around from place to place without the danger of same being lost.
The numeral 4 designates a reel or other suitable device containing a coil spring or other means for rewinding a cord 5 that is attached to the said plumb-bob 3, after the said cord 5 has been pulled out therefrom in using the said plumb-bob 3. The main purpose of this reel is to take up the slack cord which is attached to the plumb-bob when the line is not being used. At present, when a person is surveying in the woods, and it becomes necessary for him to use a plumb-bob,

his way `to the next) location.,v
VEhe numeral- 6 designates aaifocleetwhich used lin marking lines in corner stones, sidewalks and other places having a hard surface; the cold-chisel is designated by the numeral 7.
The numeral 8 designates another suitable pocket adapted to hold a. rule 9 when the latter is not in use. i 'i The numeral 10 designates a large pocket, or pouch, and is for the purpose of carrying the location-tacks, a tape-line, knife, pencil and other such small articles that are necessary in the art of surveying. In order to prevent the above named articles from dropping out of the said pocket 10 when the user of the apron stoops over vfor any reason, an.
elastic band, or otherv suitable means, 11 have been employed to hold the top portion of the pocket in a closed position, but when it is necessary for the surveyor to remove any of the articles from the said pocket, the elastic` band will stretch and allow the article to be removed, and then the vpocket will immediately close again.
y The numeral 12 designates a common belt having the usual buckle 13 attached thereto. A suitable hook 14 is slidably secured to the said belt 12 and is used for the purpose of holding what is known as location pins. These pins (not shown) are .so constructed as to have a loop at one of their ends while their opposite end is sharpened to a point, and these pins are usually hung around the waist of the ksurveyor by means of a cord or small rope, but with my improved apron, the said pins may be easily fastened to the .said hook 14. The .said hook 14 is .so constructed as to permit it to be slid, or pushed, backward or forward so that the said pins may hang in any desired position so as not to interfere lwith vthe wearer of the apron luc when the latter finds it necessary to stoop, or While he is engaged in other Work.
The numeral designates a suitable strap that is secured to the said belt 12; theformer being used as a shoulder-strap, and its purpose is to prevent the apron from sagging under lthe weightof the ried in the series of pockets in the apron. This shoulder-strap 15 is made adjustable so as to enable the user of the apron to adjust the strap to tit the shoulder properly. n
The said belt 12 is threaded through a series of slots 16 that are formed in the upper portion `of the apron, and said belt may be adjusted by sliding said belt through said slots. Thexsaidbelt isused to strap the apron around users Waist.
While I have illustrated certain details which I deemed to be particularly effective, and have illustrated a construction which is very easy to be assembled, I do not Wish to be limited tothese details as it is obvious that many changes might be made therein Without depart-ing from the spirit or scope of mynvention.
articles being carj Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is :V Y y. Y,
.1. Av surveyors apron designed to be attached to a body supporting belt and adapted to have a series of pockets secured there? on for the purpose of carrying the necessary tools and'small articles that are used by those engaged in the trade, and a spring reel secured thereon having a Winding cord attached to l`a plumb-bob, and a holder for the plumb-bob so mounted on the apron as to maintain the plumb-bob in a convenient and readily accessible position for use.
2. An apron designed tobe attached to a body supporting belt, and a spring-reel secured thereon having a Winding cord attached to a plumb-bob, and a holder for the plumb-bob so mounted on the apron .as to `maintain the plumb-bob in a convenient and` readily accessible position'for use.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to thi-s specification., v
