Description

A. L. LAUBY UMBRELLA HOLDER Jan. 24, 1928.
Filed Jan. 8, 1927 Bil patented Jan. 24, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALOYSIUS L. LAUBY, or auccreo, WISCONSIN.
-* UMBRELLA HOLDER.
Application filed January 8, 1927. Serial No. 159,820.
brella may be held in any one oi a number of different adjusted positions, and may also be held suspended when the umbrella is closed.
This invention is designed to provide a simple type of umbrella holder which may be readily manufactured, which is easy to apply, and which will leave both hands oi the user free.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings-in which:
Figure 1 shows the relative position of the umbrella and holder when the device is in use;
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail of a position of the holder;
Figure 3 is a detail view of a modified form. r
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the holder comprises a relatively wide strap 1 which constitutes a belt and is adapted to be adjustably secured by means of a buckle 2 around the waist of the wearer.
The strap is prevented from slipping down by means of a looped shoulderstrap 3 whose ends are secured to the belt 1, and which is adapted to pass over the shoulder of the wearer, as shown in Figure 1. The supporting strap 8 is provided with a small strap 4; equipped with a buckle and adapted to be looked around the stem 5 of an umbrella.
The body portion or belt 1 provided with an auxiliary strap 6 which has a slide 7 thereon. This slide is in reality a sheath which is free to slide back and forth along the auxiliary strap 6, such auxiliary strap having its ends secured at spaced points to.
the main belt 1. The slide 7 is held in adjusted position by means or a buckle 8 at tached to one end thereof and slidably receiving the auxiliary strap 6.; shown most clearly in Figure 2. The slide 7 is provided with a loop 9 adapted to receive the curved handle 10 of the umbrella, as shown in Figure 1, such curved handle being inserted from either end. Further, the adjustability oi the slide along the auxiliary strap 6 permits thesetting of the umbrella at any desired angle.
Obviously, when the umbrella is folded up, it may be suspended from the loop 9 and carried in this manner.
In the event that a straight handled umbrella is used, provision is made for holding the knob or end of the handle. The knob or end of the handle is inserted through the eyelet 11 formed in the loop 9.
As shown in the modified form, Figure 3, the eyelet 11 may be surrounded with a shirring string sheath 12 within which a.
shirring string-13 is positioned, so that the shirring string may be drawn tight and its ends tied to thus lock the end of the straight handle in place.
ht will thus be seen that an umbrella holder has been provided which may be read ily adjusted to the exact size needed, which will securely hold the umbrella in any desired position of adjustment, and which is adapted to receive either a straight handle or a curved handled umbrella.
Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as illustrative rather than limiting as the invention may be variously embodied and as the scope of such invention is to be determined as claimed.
I claim:
1. A11 umbrella holder comprising a belt having an adjusting buckle and adapted to surround the waist of a wearer, a looped member carried by said belt and adapted to receive the handle of an umbrella while permitting rocking of said handle. a shoulder strap having its ends secured to said belt,
and means carried by said shoulder strap and adapted to detachably lock the stem of the umbrella to said shoulder strap.
2. An umbrella holder comprising a belt, a shoulder strap secured to said belt, a looped member secured to said belt for the reception of a curved handle of an umbrella, said member having an eyelet for the reception of a straight handle of an umbrella, a shirring string surrounding said eyelet, and means carried by said shoulder strap for receiving the stem of an umbrella.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wiscousin.
ALOYSIUS L. LAUBY.
