This invention vrelates to certain newand useful Aimprovement-s in .watchf bracelet hooks, and the-:primary object thereo'f is to provide a novel form of spring latchf which may be produced by doubling a ypiece of springfmaterial. 'l
' A furtherobject, of thev inventionjis to provide a latch which may be operated from either side of the hook thereby toenable the hook to bev easilyand quickly applied to'andf removed fromthe watch. y f l The invention further aimsto provide a latch of this'kindgin which the doubling vofv the spring: metal afordsa spring V'catch to hold the latch against "accidental opening movement.A Y In the drawingsz#` Y Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention, and v Y Figures 2, 3 and Li are sectionson lines 2-2, 3-3 and L.1 -4f respectively of Figure 1. In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, the hook is formed of a piece of metal to provide a back 1, an end wall 2, a front 3 and a tongue 4, which latter is spaced from the back 3 to provide an opening 5 into which the usual loop on the side of the watch can be.v introduced. The
-tongue 4t at its freeend is provided with a depressed part! 6 which is of concave-convex cross section as shownin Figure 4. The latch is formed of a piece of spring material doubled upon itself to provide opposed legs 7 and 8, the latch being received between the back 1 and the front 8 andl being pivotally connected to the latter parts by means of a pivot pin or rivet 9. As shown in Figuret, the leg 8 of the latch is offset at its free end and is formed of concavo-convex crossr section as indicated at- 10 so as to receive the convex side of the` keeper 6 in its concave side. The sides of the leg 7 of the latch have extensions that are turned at right .angles to provide sides .11 which lie flush with the back 1 and the front Sas shown'in Figurev 3. yThe free end of the leg 8 ofthe latch is formed at its opposite sides withffinger nail receiving cut outs 12 whichflatt'er projectV outwardly from the free end ofthe tongueA 4 so that the latch can be manipulatedfrom either side of the tongue. Y
From the foregoing it vwill be seen that due to the spring properties of the metal of spring properties ofthe tongue 4, theolfset' or struck outparts 6 and lOcan freely snap or ride one'yover the other so as to enable the latch to be-movedto latched or un?y latched' position. #It will further be noted thatV thel entire :device fis composed of' but three parts, which can'beeconomically pro' duced and.. assembledbymere heading ofthe rivet'.
It will be 'asc notemment@ from; ends f of l,the sides 11 will engage the usual bar atthe side .of the watchfandprevent same A fromentering the latch.
' Having thus describedmy inventionfwhat I claim as new and desire to Secure by Let! ters Patent f y yln'a "watch bracelet'hook, a hook kmem ber having a back, a hook on one end of the back having a concavo-convex part at its. free end, a front, a U-shaped spring latch member in thehook member having the free end of one of its legs odset to engage the hook and provided with a concave-convex part to engage the concavo-convex part of the hook, and a rivet pivotally connecting the latch to they hook member, the' latch havf ing extensions on one of its legs bent inwardly toward the other leg to form sides and having finger-nail receiving depressions on opposite lsides of said offset vfree' end thereof. Y
2. In a watch bracelet hook, ay hook member havinga back, a hook on one end of the back having a concavo-convex part at its free end, a front, a U-shaped spring latch member in the hook member having the free end of one of'its legs offset to engage the hook and provided with 'a concavo-convex part to engage the vconcave-convex part of' the hook, vand a rivet pivotally connecting thelatch to the hook member; f
3. In a device of the type set forth, a hooky member having a back provided with a Ahook on one end thereof alnd having a front which latter has an end spaced from the fhook, and ak latch disposed between the back yand front and extending across the space between the hook and ysaid end of the front -and engaged with the inner face of the hook,
and means to the member. Y .Y
4.71m a device of the type Set forth,a hook member having a back provided with pivotally' connect the latch to which ythe latch is formed and due to the a hookkon one end thereof and having a front which latter has an end spaced from the hook, anda latch disposed between the back and front and extending across the space between the hook and said end of the front and engaged with the inner face of the hook, means to pivotally connect the latch to the member, and means to latch the latch tothe hook.
5. In a device of the type set forth, a hook member having a back provided with a hook on one end thereof: and having a front which latter has an end spaced from the hook, and a latch disposed between the back and front and extending across the space between the hook and said end ol the` front andengaged with the inner face of the hook, said latch being of substantially U-shape and having extensions on one ot' its legs bent inwardly toward the other leg to 'form sides, and means to pivotally connect the latch to the member.
6. In combination with a member having a back, a hook and a front having its forward end spaced from the hook to receive a Wrist watch bar 0r the like in such space, a latch between the front and back having a part extending across said space and engaged with the hook, and means tomovably connect the latch to the member.
7. In combination with a member having a back, a hook and a front having its forward end spaced from the hook toireceive a wrist watch bar or the like in such space, a latch between the front and back having a resilient part extending across said space and engaged with the hook, means on the hook Vto engage said resilient part so as to latch `the latch, and means to movably con' neet the latch to the member.
8. In .combination with Va member having aback, a hook and a front having its forward end'spa'ced from the hook to receive a wrist watch bar or the like in such space,"a latch between the front and back having a part extending across said space andV en gaged with the hook, one of the last named elements being resilient and said elements having complementary latching means, and means to mova-bly connect the latch to the member. p
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
