It is apparent that the portion of my invention hitherto described provides a neat delivery openingl for ,a wallv portion which iranged so that when said receptacle 40 is in lowered position the outer edge thereof will abut the edge of said wall as shown in Fig. 2 and when in raised position it will be at an angle immediately behind said opening 12 so that fragile articles maybe inserted therein by the deliverant without fracture thereof. As shown in Figs. and 6 I preferably construct said pivoting means in such a manner that if desired the receptacle 40 may be readily detached from the inside of the door to present the inner wall surface shown in Fig. 4. Said means 42 preferably comprises the hinge brackets 41 attached to the inside of said wall below I said opening 12 having the hinge ears 43 projecting upwards therefrom supporting the hinge bars 45 therein, and the cooperating hinge brackets 47 attached to the upper outside edge of said receptacle having the hinge hooks 49 projecting upwards adapted to be detachably hung on said hinge bars between said ears 43.

I also provide means 50 attached to said receptacle and the inside of said wall to detachably secure said receptacle to said wall in raised position. In my preferred embodiment said means comprises the rearwardly projectingv eye 52 attached to said wall 10 above said opening 12 and the hook 54 pivoted on the upper rear edge of said receptacle adapted to detachably engage with said eye 52 to detachably secure said receptacle to said door in raised position. The receptacle 40 is provided with the aperture 51 near the upper end of the rear edge thereof to permit access to the door 14 and its attachments for locking and unlocking purposes. Said aperture 51 forms the bar 53 extending horizontally across the upper rear edge thereof, said bar53 and aperture 51 forming a convenient handle for readily lifting the receptacle 40.

In use the housewife or other inhabitant attaches the receptacle 40 through the medium of the hinge 42 adjacent the inside of the wall belowthe opening 12. When it is desired to use said receptacle for the delivery of fragile articles in particular, the housewife lifts the hook 26 and pivots the hooked end 30 of the shaft 28 so that it will project upwardly to engage the outer end of said hook 26 to hold said door in open position. If the door 14 is already locked by the spring catch 20 it is` obvious l that it is necessary for her to pull upon the withdrawing handle 24 thereof to release it. She then raises the package receptacle 40 to the position shown in Fig. 1 and causes the hooked end 54 of said hook 50 to engage the eye 52 projecting rearwardly from the wall 1() above said opening 12 to retain said receptacle 40 in raised position behind the then open aperture 12. The milk man or other deliverant arrives and inserts the milk bottle 60 through the opening 12 into the package receptacle 40, the package receptacle 40 being so shaped that the milk man may readily insert his arm through thc opening 12 to gently lay the milk bottle 60 on the bottom of said receptacle 40 as shown. r2

He then turns the handle 32 of the shaft 28 to cause the inner end 30 thereof to become disengaged fromI the hook 26. It is then obvious that the door 14 through gravity drops into closed position being limited in its forward movement by the frame 18. It is apparent that it will stop in its forward movement substantially in the plane of the door 10, the momentum of the dropping door causing the end 22 of the spring catch 2O to raise up over the lug 17 against theV force of the spring until it passes the lug 17 when the force of the spring 2O will push the latch 22 downward to cause the rear edge of the end 22 to engage the outer edge of the lug 17 to securely lock said door from opening from without. The housewife may thenif she desires withdraw the hook 50 from the eye 52 and permit the receptacle 40 to gently drop to its lowered position shown in Fig. 2 when the milk bottle or other articles may be readily removed from the said receptacle. On gaining access through the aperture 51 she may again open and' lock the door 14. If lthe delivery is leu then completed for the day the. housewife may remove the package receptacle as hitherto explained, or she may then set the package receptacle door and lock in the manner hitherto explained for another delivery.

It is obvious that I have provided a neat safe package delivery device simple to operate and easy to construct.

It is understood that my invention is not limited tothe specific embodiment shown and that various deviations may be made therefrom without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A package delivery device comprising in combination with a wall portion having a delivery opening therein, a door for said opening, means to pivotally mount said door adjacent said opening, means attached to said wall portion to limit the forward movement of said door to the plane of the wall portion, means attached to said door and the side of said wall opening to lock said door in closed position against opening from door and releasable from the outside of said c delivery opening therein, a door for said.

3. A package delivery device comprising in combination with a wall portion having a delivery opening therein, a door for said opening, means to pivotally mount said door adjacent said opening, a package receptacle,A

means to detachabl-y pivotally attach said receptacle on the inside of said wall below said opening so that when said receptacle is in lowered position it will abut the inside of said wall and when in raised positionitwill lie at an angle immediately behind said opening and means attached to said receptacle and the inside of said wall to detachably secure said receptacle to said wall in raised position. f

4. A package delivery device comprising in combination with a wall portion having a f delivery opening therein, ay door for said opening, means to pivotally mount said door on the upper edge of said'opening, mea-ns attached to the outer edge of said wall portion extending across a portion of said opening to limit the forward movement of said door to th-e plane of the wall portion, a lug projecting upwardly from the lower edge of said opening, a springcatch having a spring actuated end normally projecting downwards to engage said lug to lock said door aga-inst opening from without and having a withdrawing handle operable from `within to release said catch, a hook pivoted on the rear edge of said door, a rotatable shaft projecting through said wall above said door having a hooked inner end adapted 4to engage with said hook on the rear edge of said door to hold said door in raised position and a handle on the outside of said door to rotate said shaft to release said hook and `hooked end to permit said door to pi'ivot to locked position, a package lreceptacle means to detachably pivotally attach said receptacle on the inside of said wall below said opening so lthat when said receptacle is in lowered position it will abut the inner edge of said wall and when in raised position it will be at an angle iiiimediat-el 7 behind said opening, a rearwardlyprojecting eye attached to the inside of said wall above said opening and a hook pivoted on the upper rear end of said receptacle adapted to detachably engage with said eye to detachably secure said receptacle lto saiddoor in raised position.

5. A package delivery device comprising in combination witha wall portion having a delivery opening' therein, a door for said openin-g,pmeans to pivotally mount said door lon the. upper edge of said opening,'means attached to ythe louter edge of said wall portion extending across a portion of said opening to limit the forward movement of said door to the plane of the wall portion, a lug projecting upwardly from the lower edge of said opening, a spring catch having a spring actuated end normally projecting downwards to engage said lug to lock said door against opening from without and having a withdrawing handle operable from within to release said catch, a hook pivoted on the rear edge of said door, a rotatable shaft projecting through said wall'above said door having a hooked inner end adapted to engage with said hook on the rear edge ofsaid door to hold saiddoor in raised position and a handle on the outside of said dooi` to rotate said shaft to release said hook and hooked -endto permit said door toy pivot to locked position. 7 Y
