Be it known that I, LOUIS T. a citizenof the United States, and resident of Chicago, in the'c'ounty of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Bottle Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a milk bottle safe or receptacle adapted to receive a bottle of milk from the exterior and when closed to prevent the removal of the bottle except from the interior.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a device ofsimple construction so ar-' ranged as to adapt itself to the reception of one or more bottles and to be locked in position by the weight of the bottles. The device is an improvement on those looking r e-- ceptacles in which the shape or size of the bottle is an important element in the locking means. The present device depends wholly on the weight of the bottle for retaining the outside closure in locked position.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which,
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view through a device constructed in accordance with my invention, the parts being shown in position to receive a bottle of milk;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device in closed position; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings it will be seen that the device comprises side walls 10 and top and bottom walls 11, 12. When complete front and rear walls 13, 14 are employed, the door or closure 15 for the outside opening being hinged or pivoted as at 16, to the wall 13. The box formed by the walls described, may
be secured to a wall adjacent to a window or.
door as desired, a hinged windowv 17 being shown in Fig. 1. V
The door or closure 15 is provided at its lower end with lateral, inwardly extending arms 18, to which is pivoted a bottle supporting member 19. The pivot 20, of this member, is positioned intermediate the ends of the support and is so arranged relative to the weight of the support that there is a preponderance of weight outside of the pivot. This weight preponderance may be secured by providing a casting 21, which is in effect a cpunter-weight, the casting having ears 22, which in conjunction with a pin 23 Specification of Letters-Patent Patent d; B13

serves"to "connect-the support to a, vertical latch24, set into the closurei The latch or bar 24fmayfbe held in positionfby the. cross straps 25. At its upperen'dthe latch is sun ably beveled to engage behind a stop 26,
whereby the door may close notwithstanding an elevated position of thelatch. In operation the device may be positioned as shown in Fig. 1. A bottle 27 is placed upon the door and the door then'swung into its closed position. The weight of the bottle being ing in combination, a box having an outside opening, a closure pivoted near its lower end for closing said opening, a bottle-supporting member pivoted to the closure at a point inside of the box, and a latch cooperating with sald supporting member and adapted tobe moved and held in position to lock said closure in closed position by the weight of a bottle onsaid member. i
2. A. device of the class described comprising in combination, a box having an outside opening, a door for said opening, a bottlesupport pivoted to the door, and a door latch cooperating with said support and adapted to be moved to locking position by the weight of a bottle on said support. r
3. In a milk bottle safe, the combination of a box having an outsideopening, a door for said opening, mounted on a horizontal pivot located near the lower extremity of the door, arms connected to the door and,
projecting inwardly of the door, a bottlesupport piVoted'tOsaid arms at a point"in-' termediate the ends of the support, and a latch for the door adapted to' be moved to closed position bythe weight 4. In a milk bottle safe, the combination of a box-having an outside opening, a door for said opening, mounted on a horizontal pivot located near the lowerextremity of of a bottle on Y the door, arms connected to the door and projecting inwardly to the door, a bottlesupport pivoted to said arms at such a point as to provide a preponderance of Weight outside of the pivotal point, and a door latch connected to the support and adapted to be moved into and out of locking position by movement of said support. V
5. A locking device for bottles comprising in combination, walls providing front and rear openings, said front opening having a door pivoted near its lower end on a horizontal pivot, arms projecting laterally in- LOUIS T. SGHUBERTH.
