This invention relates to a new and improved casing or trim for plastered walls, and more especially to such a casing or trim adapted toserve to cover and protect the marginal edge of plastered walls around openings such as door and window openings, and the like. 7
One of the features of my invention is to provide such a casing or'trim which also companying drawings, Figure 1 is a sec tional and elevational view of the edge of a 5 wall adjacent an opening, for example a door opening, Fig. 2 is a View taken as indicated by the line 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of a strip of my improved casing or trim showing the same re- 30 moved from the wall.
As shown in the drawings, indicates the inside of a wall or partition terminating in a stud 11, here shown as a wooden 2 X 4;, and usually referred to as a buck.
12 indicates the door frame, 13 the door and 1 1 the usual jamb or stop.
15 indicates the plaster on the wall.
16 indicates, in general, a piece of easing ill sheet metal. This strip has a flat end portion indicated by 16 the edge of which is adapted to be nailed to the end face of the buck 11 by means of the nails 17 through the holes 17. The outer edge of the portion 16 has a narrow margin 16 bent substantially at right angles thereto and the material from the edge of this margin 16 is bent inwardly toward the portion 16 as indi cated by 16 thence again outwardly and away therefrom as indicated by 16, the extreme marginal edge as indicated by 16 lying at right angles to the portion 16 and adapted for attachment to the side face of the buck 11 by means of the nails 18 through the holes 18 7 or trim preferably formed out'of a strip of The portion 16 of the strip is preferably provided with holes 19 through which the plaster may be caused to pass to key the same to the trim. This keying orlooking of the plaster is also assisted by the portion 16 of the casing or trim which overlies the edge of the plaster and assists in holding the same in place. 7 I
The frame mei nber 12 is usually spaced some distance from the end face of the bucli 11. thus leaving a crack 20. I prefer to cover this crack by means of the moulding 21 nailed to the edge of the frame 12 by means of the nails 22.
l/Vhile I have shown and described cer' understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention disclosed in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty in my invention as broadly as possible in View of the prior art.
\ What I claim is new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A sheet metal casing or trim fora wall opening comprising a strip of metal having an end portion adapted for attachment to the end face of a wall, the outer edge of said end portion having a margin bent substantially at right angles thereto, the material atthe edge of said margin being bent backwardly toward the end portion and thence away therefrom, the extreme marginal edge thereof lying at right angles to the end portion and adapted for attachment to the side face of a wall.
2. A sheet metal casing or trim for a wall opening comprising a strip of metal having an end portion adapted for attachmenteto' the end face of a wall, the outer edge of said end portion having a margin bent substan tially at right angles thereto, the material at theedge of said margin being bent baclr wardly'toward the end portion and thence away therefrom and provided with plaster locking apertures, the extreme marginal edge thereof adapted for attachment to the side face of a wall.'
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 23rd day of June, 1927.
