T. S. LORD WATER CLOSET ACCESSORY Filed Aug. 8, 1927 mammum mm 1 Patented June 19, 1928.
UNITED- STATES THOMAS SEAGRAVE LORD, OF DUNEDIN, FLORIDA.
WATER-CLOSET ACCESSORY.
Application filed August 8, 1927.
This invention relates to improvements in water closet accessories and more particularly to adjustable means for causing the body to assume a proper position to facilitate defeecations,-one object is to provide a simple structure which shall be adjustable for persons of different proportions, in-
cluding children as well as grown persons, and which shall be operable to cause the in lower limbs to assume such position that the act of defaecation shall be assisted.
lVith this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings;
Figure 1 is a View illustrating an embodiment of my invention, and
Figure 2 is a plan View.
My improvements are to be associated with a water closet bowl of any preferred style and over which a seat is provided as is well understood in the art.
The base frame 1 of my improved attachment (which may be a casting) is approximately U-shaped so that it may be caused to partially embrace the base of the bowl, with the members 2, 2 of said frame at 30 the sides of the bowl and the connecting member 3 in front of the bowl, and said base frame will preferably be provided with rubber feet l which by their frictional engagement with the floor will prevent the device from sliding.
Lugs 5, 5, project upwardly from each of the side members 2 of the base frame 1 and with these lugs, pairs of parallel links 6, 6 are pivotally connected. These links extend forwardly and upwardly from their connection with the base frame, so that they will be inclined. The upper forward end portions of the links 6 of the respective pairs of parallel links are connected with lugs 7 depending from lateral extensions 8 of castings 9 and the links 6 are pivoted to lugs 7 near the other ends of said castings. These castings constitute supports for a platform or foot board 10, the rear edge portion of which is recessed as at 10 to avoid conflict with the front part of the bowl while being adjusted and to permit the user to draw his feet well back and assume a natural squatting position.
Standards 11 project upwardly from re- Serial No. 211,491;
spective members 2 of the base frame 1 and curve rearwardly. Each standard is, provided on one edge with ratchet teeth 12. Brackets 13 are secured to the under side of the platform or, foot board 10 and each of these brackets carries a pivoted dog 14 which engages the toothed standards in a manner to retain the platform or foot board 10 in any desired position of vertical adjustment. A spring 15 bears against each dog so that the dogs may ride over the ratchet teeth of the standard when the board 10 is raised from a lower toan upper position of vertical adjustment. The dogs are provided with handles 16 which may be manipulated to disengage said dogs from engagement with the ratchet teeth of the standards when it is desired to move the board 10 to a lower position of vertical adjustment. 1
Downward movement of the platform or foot board 10 may be limited by'lugs 17 on the lower portions of the standards to be engaged by the links 6. Lugs 18 near the upper ends of the standards serve, by cooperation with the links 6, to limit the upward movement of the platform or foot board 10.
It will be readily seen that by means of my improvements, the foot board may be easily adjusted vertically and also rearwardly or forwardly relatively to the bowl seat, so that it may bemade to accommodate persons of different proportions, including children as well as grown persons.
\Vhen' the device is in use, the user will be in a squatting position with his feet upon the foot board near the side edges thereof, and steps 19 to receive the heels of the users shoes will be suitably located upon the foot board near the rearwardly projecting side portions thereof. With my improvements, the lower limbs of the user will be made to take positions that will cause the body to assume such natural position as will facilitate the operation of defaecation, and tendency toward constipation will be prevented.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a base frame adaptable to the base portion of a water closet bowl, of a foot board, pairs of parallel links pivotally connected with said foot board and said base frame, curved standards projecting upwardly from the base frame and having ratchet teeth, and spring-pressed dogs carried by the under side of the foot board and cooperable with the ratchet teeth of the standards.
In a device of the character described, the combination with a base frame adaptable to the base portion of a water closet bowl, of a foot board, pairs of parallel links pivotally connected with said foot board and said base frame, carved standards projecting upwardly from the base frame and having ratchet teeth, spring-pressed dogs carried by the under side of the foot board and cooperable with the ratciict teeth of the standards, and handles on said dogs.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination with an approximately U- shaped base frame, of a foot board, pairs of parallel links pivotall connected with the foot board and with the base frame, curved standards projecting upwardly from the base frame and having ratchet teeth, brackets secured to the under side of the foot board, pivoted spring'pressed dogs mounted in said brackets and cooperable with the toothed standards in a manner to retain the foot board at any desired position of vertical adjustment.
i. In a device of the character described, the combination of a base frame, a foot board, pairs of links pivotally connected with the foot board and with the base frame, standards projecting upwardly from the base frame, stops on said standards and cooperable with a link of each pair to limit vertical movement of the foot board. and means carried by the foot board and cooperable with the standards to retain the foot board at any desired position of vertical adjustment.
In a device of the character described. the combination with a base frame, a vcrticaliy adjustable foot board supported by said base frame, said foot board having a recessed rear portion forming rearwardly projecting side portions, and stops on the foot board near the side portions thereof to receive heels of the users shoes.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
