To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN RIDGL Y, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Orleans, parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Water-Closets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has reference to water closet attachments and it proposes, briefly,

an improved auxiliary seat for children which is capable of being readily applied.

The improved auxiliary seat 4 which constitutes the present invention, is of substantially the same shape and size as the main seat 2, and is provided at its rear end with rearwardly extending attaching means 5, here shown as consistmg of a pair of spaced, parallel arms having slightly-upturned free ends, adapted for insertion beneath the hinges 6 thatconnect the said main seat and the cover to the bowl. The auxiliary seat is designed to rest upon the edge or rim of the bowl in the manner depicted in Fig. 1, and is equipped with a brace arm 7- which is hinged at one end in a recess 8 formed in the upper surface of said seat,

and is designed for engagement with the main seat, to hold the latter and the cover, which are raised prior to the attachment of the auxiliary seat, against forward movement, the said arm occupying such recess when not in use, and being furnished with a knob or button 9 by means of which it is manipulated The safety support, above referred to, is likewise mounted upon the up- Specification of Letters Patent.

14 and 15 of the railing are integrally connected, and the former are extended forwardlyto produce loops 16, to which the ends of a suitable retaining strap 17 may be attached. L The railing may be secured in any desired manner to the seat, as, for example, by means of vertical supporting brackets or standards 18 which are located at its rear corners and are connected at their upper ends to said corners and at their lower ends to said seat, the terminals 19 of the forwardly extended loops also being turned downward and fastened to the said seat, so as to support the front ends of the railing.

The foot-rest" 12 may be either rigidly or pivotally connected to the railing, according as preferred, the latter construction being illustrated. In this instance, the horizontal upper arms of the L-shaped sides 20 of the foot rest are pivoted at their terminals to the terminals of the portions 19 of the railing, thus permitting the foot rest to be swung bodily upwardly and rearwardly over the auxiliary seat, when the latter is detached. The vertical arms of the said sides 20 support the foot board 21 upon their forwardly bent lower ends and are braced intermediate their ends by a crosspiece 22 or the like.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim is 1.'As a new article of manufacture, an auxiliary seat for water closet bowls comprising an apertured' seat, means projecting from the rear of the seat for engaging the hinge portion of the main seat and to secure the same to thebowl of the closet, and a hinged brace arm secured to the seat and adapted to be moved to engage the main seat of the closet, when the latter is raised, to hold the same against falling.

2.- As a new article of manufacture, an auxiliary seat for, water closet bowls comprising an apertured seat formed with a recess in its top face, means on the seat for securing the same to the closet bowl, a brace arm normally lying in said recess flush with the surface of the seat, said brace arm being pivotally secured at its rear end to the seat and adapted to be moved to have its free end engage the main seat of the closet, when Y the latter is raised, to hold the same in its raised position.
