FOLDING BOX.

Application filed November 10, 1924. Serial No. 18,800.

This invention relates to display devices. and its principal object is to. prOVide a device of this character in which articles in the nature of mens garters, or other arti-cles ot a generally flat form. may be displayed, the same being inexpensive and simple in constructiomand adapted to have the article readily assembled therewith and held thereby inv a secure and attractive manner.

A further object is to provide a display holder and means associated therewith whereby to form a box 'or' container for the article wherein it may be packed andj shipped, practically enclosed, and thereupon displayed for sale. In the'best form of the invention, the container, including the hold er and said means, is formed from a single piece of sheet material, as in the example shown in the accompanying drawing and hereinafter described.

The blank shown in Fig. 4 is a piece of suitably stiff sheet material. as pasteboard. It is rectangular and elongated and includes three main rectangular wall-forming portions at, b and c of substantially equal dimensions, wall a being adapted in the completed container to form its bottom. wall I; its top and wall 0 a false bottom. Alternating with the portions forming these walls are portions (Z, c and f each rectangular and as long as each of said portions a, b and c is wide transversely of the blank but appreciably narrower. To form the holder for the articles I slit the blank in the portion forming the false bottom 0 on two lines 2' extending trans versely of the blank. This will leave a strap j between the two lines. I also slit the material on pairs of spaced lines extending from opposite sides of the strap. This will leave the strap joined to the remainder of the blank or piece by connections Z, a pair on each side of the strap. These connections may be bent on lines extending lengthwise of the strap (as on the dotted lines shown) so that the part including the strap and connections will be arched as shown in Fig. 3, leaving the strap elevated out of the plane of the wall 0. The article to be displayed may be then inserted under the strap, resting on the remainder of wall 0 as a background, when the various parts of the blank have been brought into the relation whereby to form a box or container as already described. The article is protected from exposure at. the back by wall a. Usually the article will be assembled with the blank before it is manipulated to form the box or container.

The container being designed especially as a display container I form the top wall I) with an opening 6' and this may be produced so as to provide a closure therefor by slitting wall 6 on three lines at right angles to each other, thereby leaving the part of the material bounded by the slits and indicated by b" as such closure, the same being capable of hinging on the dotted line shown.

The wall 7 notonly engages the walls 6 and (Z at their juncture but is inclined or divides the angle formed by these two walls so that it is thus locked against tilting in either direction, or maintained in a definite position, and holds the false bottom in face to face contact with the bottom it.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A display container formed of one piece of stiff sheet material and including an apertured top wall, opposite side walls depending from the top wall, a bottom and a false bottom extending from the respective side walls and the latter lying for substantially its full extent on and in face to face contact with the former, and a wall extending from that edge of the false bottom which is remote from the side wall to which said false bottom is connected into contact with and dividing the angle between said top and the other wall at their juncture and thereby holding said false bottom in such contact with the bottom.

2. A display container ffllll'lCtl of one piece of stiff sheet material and including an apertured top wall, opposite side walls depending from the top wall, a bottom and a false bottom extending from the respective side walls and the latter having an elevated strap-forming intermediate portion and the portions thereof flanking said intermediate portion each lying {or substantially its full extent in face to face contact with said bottom, and a wall extending from that edge of the false bottom which is remote from the side wall to which said false bottom is connected into contact with and dividing the angle between said top and the other side wall at their juncture and thereby holding said flanking portions of the false bottom in such contact with the bottom.
