HAS? LOCK.
Application lcd .August 31, 1926.
This invention relates to the type o t lock mechanism including a hasp and staple and ohviates the use ot the usual separate pad lock.
The invention contemplates a lock niechanisin mounted upon the hasp and completely enclosed and protected by a housing,V which is extended to cover the staple and shackle, thereby preventing tampering with the lock und protecting' all parts troni the weather.
The invention prorit. i; a. hasp lock which may be applied by the average person, and which comprises a. tow nuinbcr et' paris, und which is simple, cheap, etliectire, light and readily operable.
While the drawings illusti" e a preferred enibodinient of the invention, it is to be understood that. in adapting the ineans yto n'ieet specific needs and requirements, the design may be varied and such other changes in the minor details oit construction may be resorted to within the scope ot the invention as claimed, without departing troni the spirit thereof. I
For a tull nnderstandinpl ot the inrenlion and the merits thereof, reiference is to be had to the following; description and the drawings hereto attuched, in which,-
Figure l a perspective View ot a hasp lock Vembodying` the invention, showii'ig the saine applied.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional View ol' the lock on the line Q-2 et Figure l, and
Figure 3 a horizontal sectional view el the parts illustrated in Figure l, with the kegT in position.
Correspoi'iding and like parts are referred i to in the following ilescription and desighated in the several views oft' the ilrawings hy like reference. characters.
The Tunnel-al l designates a door or like part, and 2 the traine or like part bordering.; upon the openings to which the door l is fitted. The staple 3 may be ot' uny approved construction and appliei'l to one ol' the parts, as preferred, in the usual way. The hasp l is pivotallv attached to the other part, and
is ornied with the usual slot tor the rccep- K tion ot the staple o. A shackle is pivoted to the hasp 4 and comprises a shank curved arm 6, and linger piece 7. The arin 6 is notched adjacent its end to receive an eX- tension of a pivoted lock member 8 which is spring actuated to operate aulon'iatically, and which is released by means olf a key 9.
Serial No. 132,783.
housing l() completely encloses the sta ple, shackle and lock mechanism, `with the exception oli a` projecting` portion ot the tinger piece 7 ot the shackle. The housing l0 preferably `forms a part ot the hasp fland is `lornned with a slot ll, at its lower side for the shackle when swung outward to clear the staple l. lt will thus be understood that the lock inechanisin, shackle and staple are con1- pletely enclosed and protected. By having the slot lll in the lower side ot the housing moisture is prevented troni entering the lock and causing the parts to rust. A portion ot the liront oil' the housing@r l0 opposite the staple 3 is pressed outwardly, as indicated at l2, to clear the end of the staple, und admit ot the housing` being ot a inininnun depth. ln seine instances it may be preferred lo enclose the lock mechanism in va casini; 'll and have the shackle pivoted to said casing', nnd when the parts are assembled snid casing is disposed within the housltl. This arrangement admits ot the hasn 4 :and housing Yl0 being toi-ined et light inatcrial, such as sheetsteel troni which the hasp and housing may he struck.
,lhc invention' results in the provision of a hasp lock which is neat in appearance, light, durable, effective and capable et' being nuinipulatcd by one hand, and which obviates the use ol a separate and independent lock mechanism, such as a. pad lock.
Having thus described the invention, I claiin:
A lock device et the character speeiii'ed, comprisingr a. hasp l'ravinp,F a slot for the reception oit a co-in'rcrating,r staple. and having' the marginal portion bordering upon the slot pressed outwardly, a. shackle coniprising a straight shank piroteil at one end to the hasp and provided at its opposite end with a linger piece/and a curved arni projecting troni the swinging` end ol' the shank and adapted to engage the staple, lock means adapted to engage the curved urni ot' the shackle, and a housin carried by the hasp and adapted to completely enclose the lock mechanism, shackle and staple, and having a slot in its lower side tor the projection of Vthe .linger piece and l'or the shackle to swing through, and having a portion opposite the staple pressed outwardly to receive the end et the staple.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature.
