The general ob ect of our invention is to provide a hair waver of the indicated character of simple construction and characterized by convenience of assembly, operation and control, as well as} to provide a hair waver so constructed as not to strain or injure the hair being waved.

In carrying out our invention in cordance with the illustratedexamples, and

and sides 15. Each upper clamp element 26 at'its front end is hinged by a link32 to transverse rod 33 onthe cover 13. At the opposite end the upper and lowerclamps 25, 2 arefhinged vtoeach other by a common; hingeinemberjas; at 34, and a'link 35 con nects both upper and lower clamps a tthe hinge 34 with transverse rod 36 on body 10. The arrangement permits the two concavo' convex clamp elements2'5; 26 to have a swinging movement with the rods 31, 33and 36 as pivotal centers. To impart a swinging parallel movement to the clamps 25, 26 suitable hand operated means is provided, there being shown links 37 pivoted within the body 10 to the lower clamp element 25, as at 38,

the opposite end of each link 37 being above a slot 39 in the bottom of the body and provided with an operating finger piece 40.

In the use of the above described hair waver a strand of hair, indicated at A in Figures 6 to 8, is waved by laying the strand across the partitions 14 and sides 15, as in Figure 6, the cover 13 being then in raised position. The cover 13 is then closed down thus disposing the clamp sections 25, 26 in association with each other and with the hair therebetween, as indicated in Figure 7. In order to give the wavy form to the bent strand A, as shown in Figure 8, each pair of clamp sections, composed of the lower clam section and upper clamp section 26, 1s swung longitudinally by its link 37 and finger hold 40, it being understood that in the illustrated example showing three pairs of clamps the centeroneis moved in the opposite direction from the side clamps 25, 26. The hair isnot unduly strained because as one pair of clamp sections 25, 26' move upwardly in one direction, the adjacent pair of clamps move in an opposite direction, each pair of clamp sections rising from the position of Figure 7 to the position of Figure 8, the hairnot being immovably held, however, at any one of the moving points, that is, at the upper edges of the partitions 14 or equivalent elements or by the clamp sections 25, 26. Thus, undue strain on the hair is prevented because it is permitted to slide at these clamping points. The hair is thus bent downwardly over the partitions 14 and sides 15. and thereis also imparted a forward and back movement of the strand of hair to complete the waving operation.

Referring to Figure 10, illustrating a modified form, the parts arethe same in the main as in the first described construction, the onl difference being that in the sides 15 of the body 10 and partitions 114 there are arcuate slots 53 in which guide pins 54 have movement. said slots 53 being reversed at the opposite ends of adjacent partitions 114 giving the reverse movement of adjacent pairs of clamp sections 25, 26.

We would state furthermore that while the illustrated examples constitute practical embodiments of our invention, we do not limit ourselves strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

1. A hair waverincluding a body, a cover with said swingably connected first mentioned clamp, and a link pivotally connected at one end with the body and swingably connected to both clampsat the end opposite the first mentioned ends of said clamps, together with heating means associated with the second mentioned clamp element to take of the movement thereof.

2. A hair waver including a body, longitudinal elements on said body, pairs of clamps swingably mounted at opposite sides of said elements, and manually cont-rolled means optionally operableto move said pairs of clamps in opposite directions.

3. A hair waver including a body, a cover hinged at one end to said body, a clamp swingably mounted at one end on the body, a pair of clamps swingably mounted at one end on the cover at the same end as the first mentioned endof the first clamp section, so that the second mentioned clamp section will be raised and lowered with the raising and lowering of the cover, and means swingably mounting the opposite ends of said clamps.

4. A hair waver includingabody, longitudinal elements in said body, a cover hinged at one end to the body, means on said cover to co-act with said longitudinal elements and with the sides of the body to clamp a strand of hair thereon,-and manually controlled means optionally operable to cause movement of the strand of hairin opposite directions. 6. A hair waver including means to clamp a strand of hair at separated points. and movable clamping means for the hair between said separated points, the said clamping means at all the points of clamping permitting the slipping of the hair to prevent undue, strains thereon.
