BINDER BITCH.
application med April 2o, 1925. serial No. 24,486.
The present invention relates to a binder hitch and aims to provide a device which will compensate for side draft and with which it is possible to make a right angular turn in either direction.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which is simple in construction, reliable in operation, strong, durable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. i
Vith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and 1n the combination and arrangement of parts as will be' hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a top plan view of theimproved binder hitch, and f Figure 2 is a section 'taken on line 2-2 of Figurev 1. l a
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that 5 designates generally the binder which may be of any preferred construction. The binder tongue. 6 isattached to the binder as at 7 in the usual manner and is braced by the rods 8. The team tongue 9 is attached to the end of the binder tongue 6 in the usual manner. The parts thus far described are all of conventional construction and are illustrated merely for the purpose of bringing out the advantages and utility of our invention.
`Our improved structure consists of a bar 10 which is pivoted off kcenter intermediate its ends as at 11 to the rear end of the tongue 6. The end of the shorter arm of this bar 10 has attached thereto a rod 12 which vextends forwardly andis att-ached to the forward end of the tongue 6. A second rod 13 is pivotally engaged with the other end of the bar 10 and extends across'the tongue 6. Thevforward end of this rod 13 has a plural.
ity of links 14 mounted thereon @with which is engaged a clevis 15. A plate 16 is mounted on a bar 17 which is 'held in placel by bolts 18 and 18. A reinforcement bar 26y has its ends engaged with the under side` .of the pine ieby bolts or the like while its intermediate portion is spaced from the plate by the sleeves 28 on bolts 18 which pass therethrough. This bar 17 is pivotally between the tongues 6 and 9 and is providedl with a brace 19. Thebar 2O is receivable on top of the plate 16 and extends over the bar 17 being held thereon by the bolt 18. A three-horse evener 21 is pvotally engaged with one end ofthe bar 20 while a two-horse evener 22 is attached to the other end thereof adjacent the team tongue engaged with the pivotal connection 25 9. If a four-horsev team were to be used,
a two-horse evener would be substituted for the three-horse evener 21 and the `bar 20 shifted so that the opening 23 would be pierced by the bolt k18. It is evident that numerous adjustments of this kind can be made by those skilled in this art.
Ourk invention yparticularly includes the bars 10 and 17 withthe'rods 12 and 13,
and it will be seen that the pull on the rod 13 will tend to eliminate the side draft of the binder most effectively. Y
It is thought that the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will now be clearly understood by those skilled in this art. It will be apparent that numerous changes in the details of construction, in the. sizes, in the materlals, and 1n the comblnationand arrangement of parts may be' resorted to kwithout departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention what we claim as new is A side draft preventing device for ay binder, wherein the binder is provided with a tongue extending forwardly thereof and a secondtongue pivoted to the end of the first tongue, including a bar pivoted off center intermediate its ends to the rear end of the first tongue, a second bar having one end pivotally engaged with the 'pivot connection between the first and second tongues to extend laterally therefrom, arrod attached to one end of the first bar and to the forr ward end of the rst tongue, aY second rod attached to the other end of the first bar attached to said third bar and said second and crossing the first tongue, a member bar. y 10 loosely engaged on the end of said second In testimony whereof We ax our sigrod, a third bar detachably mounted on the natures.
second bar, the intermediate portion of said f third bar being pivoted to the free end of JOSEPH J. SAENGER.
the second bar, draft appliances attached to NICK SAENGER.
said third bar, and said member loosely MATH- SAENGER.
