BUILDING BLOCK Filed 7, 1928 & .4 I f? f.) (9. fl.
INVENTOR Tim B. EASTERDAYJR- ATTORNEY Patented May 29, 1928 I VAN E. EASTEBDAY, 83., OF UBBAN'A, ILLINOIS.
BUILDING BLOCK.
Application ma February '1, 1928. Serial in. 252,553
will be seen that the block has its walls rein- 45 This invention relates to building blocks. An object of the invention is the provision of a blockformed of c ementitious material embedded and in surrounding relation with a metallic reinforcing frame substantially in the shape of the block forming the finished product.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a block formed of a composition material and having an internal chamber and a reinforcing metal frame incorporated in the walls of the block, one of the walls-having an opening for the admission of water for causing curing of the block.
This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description; nevertheless it is to be understood that the invention is not consusceptible of. which-shall so taken along Referring more particularly to the drawas ings 10 designates a block which is formed of some composition material, such as' ce-- 'ment, and provided with an internal chamber 11 embraced bytop and-bottom walls respectively designated by the numerals 12 an 13, end walls 14, and side walls 15 and 16.
A reinforcing metal frame 18 which may be formed of lathes or wire screening is embedded inthe cement or concrete adjacent to the inner faces of the walls. Thus, it
' time as may be required for curin re 4 is a vertical section taken along forced throughout by a unitary structure formed of metal.
The form or metal cage is placed in the mold and the concrete or cement is tampe around the form with sufficient pressure to force the concrete or cement through the wire mesh or through the interstices between the lathes so that a portion as shown at 20 will project beyond the inner surface of the form While being connected as a unit with the walls. A sufiicient thickness of the concrete or cement is 'tamped on the outer surface of the metal form to provide the proper thickness which may be desired for particular purposes.
One side wall as-shownat21 is provided with a passage through which water may be admitted for the purpose of curing the block after the same has been. formed, and this water is admitted to the chamber and permitted to stay a predetermined length of the material formingthe walls of the bloc B this construction it is seen that the bloc is not only reinforced throughout the entire extent of the walls thereof, but is provided with a chamber forming an, air pocket.
I claim A building frame of boxlike structure formed entirely of fabric, and a eementitious material impregnating the entire frame and located upon op 'te-faces ofthe frame to provide walls adjoined at the adjacent edges thereof and forming a unitary structure with the wire fabric, and providing an internal chamber, the wallsof the frame being located add jaoent the walls of the internal chamber.
