Description

C. L. WOLFE ET AL May 29, 192s.
SPEAK HOLE FIXTURE Original Filed June 8, 1926 gwuanto n.. L. C ruud Liar# Elan/of outer end of stud 4 to-hold Patented May 29, 1928.
,UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SPEAK-HOLE FIXTURE.
Application led June, 1926, Serial No. 114,490. Renewed October 26, 1927.
The present invention relates to speakhole fixtures and has for its object to provide a fixture of this kind which will prevent the shooting of a bullet through the speak-hole without interfering with the passage of sound therethrough.
The invention will be more particularly described in connection with the accompany ing drawing in which,
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a bank tellers window showing the location of the speak-hole fixture;
2 is a vertical section through the center of the tellers window; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged side view of the spealehole fixture per se, parts being shown in section. i
The fixture comprises two outside clamping plates 1 and 2, and a centrallydisposed bullet-prooil diaphragm 3. A threaded stud 4f extends outward from the center of plate 1, and the diaphragm 3 and plate 2 are provided with centrally located threaded holes 5 and 6 whereby they are screwed onto the stud 4. The window 7, which is made of bullet-proof glass, has an opening 8 in which the fixture is secured.
In mounting the fixture in position the diaphragm is first screwed onto stud 4, the assembled plate 1 and diaphragm are then inserted in the opening 8, and the plate 2 is finally screwed onto stud 4 clamping` the window between the two outerplates. A nut 9 and washer 10 may be applied to the position.
The diaphragm is somewhat smaller' in diameter than the opening 8, and plates 1 and 2 are provided with shoulders 11 which rest against the circumference of the opening 8, thereby holding the fixture in concentric relation to the opening 8, and maintaining a free space between the edges of the diaphragm and the circumference of the opening 8. Obviously the shoulders 11 might be replaced by any other form of abutment such as a series oflugs arranged in a circle on the plates l Vand 2. The outer plates 1 and 2 are provided with openings 12 for the passage of sound waves which are transmitted through the fixture by .the diaphragm and also pass around the edges of the diaphragm.
the parts in wall 15 at the teller. This tray will be more 60 particularly described and claimed in another' application.
It will be seen from the above description that I have provided a speak-hole fixture of simple construction which will completel prevent the passage of a bullet, but whic 1 permits tree passage of sound, thereby facilitating conversation between the teller and a customer without endangering the life oit the teller by providing an opening through the customary bullet-proof glass through` which a holdup man might shoot.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A fixture for a bank tellers window comprising in combination with a bulletproof window having a speak-hole therein, a pair of outer plates, means for clamping said plates against opposite sides of said window around the circumference of said speak-hole, openings in said plates, and a so bullet proof diaphragm mounted in spaced relation between sald plates and extending across the openings therein.
2. A fixture according to claim i in which one of said plates is provided with a thread- 35 ed stud upon which the diaphragm and the other plate are mounted.
3. A fixture accordii'ig to claim 4 in which the diaphragm is of slightly smaller diameter than the speak-hole. and the plates are provided with abutments for holding the diaphragm in spaced relation with respect to the circumference of' the speak-hole.
ll. The combination with a speak hole through a partition of a fixture for preventing the passage of a bullet through the speak hole comprising perforated outer plates, means for clamping said outer plates on opposite sides of said partition around the circumference of said diaphragm between said across said perforations.
In 'testimony whereof the foregoing specification is signed.
