1,670,891 PATENT OFFICE.
VESSIE M. R ESE, or MABSHALLTOWN, mm.
BOOVKHOLDEIR.
Application filed m 29,
This invention relates to and has for one of its objects the improvement of the book holder forming the subject-matter of my application filed July 31, 192-4, serially numbered T29,352, and allowed October 6, 192.5 as Patent No. 1,581,063, to the end that, it may be compactly folded for shipment and storage and easily and quickly erected or arranged in condition for use.
Yfith the foregoing and other objectsin view, the invention consists of the cnstruction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and
illustrated in the accompanying drawings,
wherein 7 Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of the book holder in condition for use,
Figure 2 is a View in rear elevation of the book holder in condition for use,
Figure 3 is a view in side elevation of the hook holder in condition for use,
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the book holder in condition for use,
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the vertical plane indicated by the line 5-5 of Figure 4, and i Figure 6 is a'view in side elevation illustrating the book holder in folded condition.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and designated in the several views of the accompanying drawings, by similar reference characters.
The book holder is preferably made of wire and comprises a frame 1 having an intermediate cross bar 2. These parts constitute a rest for the back of the book. The lower end portions of the side members 1 of the frame 1 are bent forwardly and upwardly to provide U-shaped feet 3. A cross bar 4 located at the rear sides of the side members 1 and below the cross bar 2 and the upper ends of the front portions of the feet 3, is provided at its ends with upwardly and forwardly directed members 5 which contact with the outer lateral sidesof the side members and are secured to the upper ends of the front portions of the feet. A cross bar 6 is secured at its ends to the upper ends of the front portions of the feet 3, and forwardly and upwardly directed bars 7 are secured to the cross bars 4 and 6. The members 5 and the bars 6 and 7 constitute a rest for the lower edge of the book. I
The rest for the back of the book is adapted to be supported in an upwardly and rear- 1926. Serial No. 112,534.
wardly inclined position and the rest for the lower edge of the book in a downwardly and rearwardly inclined position, by means of a U-shaped stay frame 8 and a brace bar 9. The'free ends of the side members 8 of the stay frame 8 are pivotally connected as at 10 to the cross bar 4, and said members have their rear ends bent downwardly to provide U-shaped feet 11. Thebrace bar 9 is pivoted at its upper end as at 12 to the top cross member 1*. of the frame 1 and is provided at its lower end with a hook 13 which is removably engaged with the rear cross member 8 of the stay frames. If desired two of the brace bars 9 may be provided, and when this isdone they will be connected to the cross frame member 1 adjacent the ends of the latter.
The book supported by'the holder is adapted to be held 'openedby' a clip which is mounted upon the cross bar 6 and may be of the construction shown in the drawing of my copending application or of the construction shown in the accompanying drawings. The clip 14 is of U-form and preferably made of a single length of wire. The
the frame and brace bar onto the stay frame.
In addition to holding the brace bar 9 in fact that its'feet 11 will contact with the desk, chair arm or other support for the book holder.
' While I have described the preferred con:-
struction of the book holder, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the invention as claimed.
WVhat is claimed is 1. A wire book holder comprising a frame having the lower portions of its side members bent to provide U-shaped feet, a cross bar located at the rear sides of said side members and below the upper ends of the front portions of the feet, forwardly and upwardly directed members connected to the ends of the cross bar and to the upper ends of the front portions of the feet and corn tacting with the outer lateral sides of said side members, a second cross bar secured to the upper ends of the front portions of the feet, forwardly and upwardly directed bars connectedto the cross bars, a stay frame pivotally connected to said first cross bar and extending rearwardly therefrom and provided at its rear end with feet, and a brace bar pivoted to said first frame and detachably connected to the stay frame.
2. A wirebook holder comprising a frame having the lower portions of its side members bent to provide U-shaped feet, a cross bar located at the rear sides of said side members and below the upper ends of the front portions of the feet, forwardly and upwardly directed members connected to the ends of the cross bar and to the upper ends of the front portions of the feet and. contacting with the outer lateral sides of said side members, a second cross bar secured to the upper ends of the front por-
