vThis invention has to do with improvements -in display stands and the like. More particularly,it has to do with improvements' in display stands of the easel type intended' such that certain portions of the display may be'actually physically set forward or in advance of other portions thereof.

Another'feature of the invention relates to the provision of a device capable of producing the foregoing results, which device may be flattened out into asingle plane so that itcan be readily shipped in bundles or packages; but which device is also so constructed that the user can readily fold it around intol the desired form to establish the perspective and display usage.` l n l A further object in connection with the foregoing is to provide an arrangement such -that .a desirable form of easel will be established to sustain the complete device in upright position on the table or other support.

Afurther object of the invention relates to the provision of yan arrangement whereby the perspective display may be established by means of a background 'of conical form with its convex surface facing the observer; the article which is to be most prominently displayed being presented at the central portion of saidv conical surface so as to em'-V phasize the presence thereof. p

A further object of the invention relates to the provision of a constructionembodying all of the foregoing features, and which is so arranged that when made in relatively large sizes it can be readily folded `up into a smaller and more compact space of substantially vhalf size so as tofacilitate ship-A ment in smaller packages.

The parts 6, 7, 8 and-9 may all be made as a singleunit orblank of the form illus tratedin Fig. 3.,v This is done by cutting on the line 11 between the ligure 6 and the background 7, so thaty these parts are severed commencing.substantially at the point 12. The parts 8 and 9 are simplycut out tothey proper shape for the lower orbase portion, as will be readily understood from Fig. 3. Preferably also the blank iscut of proper size to establish a lug`13 along the lower portion, and a folding line 14 is estab'- lished so as to .facilitate folding vsaid lug backwardly into the position shown in Fig. 4. l

The crescent-shaped background 7 termil nates at the point 15 and. isprovided'with la hook member 16 having the downwardly extending lug 17 which can be hooked into a'suitable notch or slot to receive the same when the crescent-shaped background 7 has been pulled around .as will ynowfbe explained z When'it is desired to establish the coneshaped background from the crescentshaped member 7, the lower portion 15 thereof is pulled around and behind the section 6, as will be readily understood from Fig. 4, wherein the `edge r11 of the crescentbackground member 7 appears tooverliethe backsurface of the member. This bend-I ing .operation is continued until the desiredv amount of cone has been established; jand preferably the parts should be so proportioned that this will occur whenthe hook 16-has been drawn over substantially to' the meeting line of the stand. yAny suitable 'notched or slotted device may be providedv for-receiving'the hook 17, but in the construction'illustrated I make use itself for this purpose. f

The easel 18 includes a lug 19 which is secured to the'back surface of the lower of the easel portions 8 and 9, and also includes a wing' 2O which may be folded out at right angles `to give the desired support. The lower edge 21 of this wing 2O iscut*V at the properjangle to sustain the device in the desired upright position, and said wing 2O is also notched at thepoint 221to receive the lug 13 valready referred to.

An ear 23'is cut out from the material of the easel member 18 and across the folding line 24 thereof, so that when the member 20 has been turned out at right angles, as shown i in Fig. 4, this ear 23 can then be turned down into the position of Fig. 4. This ear 23 is also provided with a notch 25 adapted to receive the edge of the member 2() so as to hold the same in the position of Fig. 4.

The easel member 18 is also provided with a slot 26, preferably formed substantially along the folding line 24, which slot is in the proper position to receive the lug 16 when the crescent-'shaped member 7 has been drawn around into the position yof Fig. 4. y

The'display stand herein'illustrated is of relatively large size andis provided with a folding line 27 which reaches across its cen'- tral portion in lan upwardly slanting direction'. The easel member 18 is also provided with a Afoldingline 28 somewhat below the position ofthe folding line 27, and near the lower portion of the lug 19 below the folding line 28 kis permanently secured to the back face of the stand.y As a consequence,

when :the wing 2O of the easel member 18 is' laid over flat against the backsurfacefof the display member, the upper portion of theeasel member 18 maybe folded down into the position of Fig. 3. 'When the'device is to be used, the easel member is first unfolded and raised upto its full height,

and then thewing 2O is turned out at rightx angles and locked in the' position of Fig. 4. In order'to retain the easel member solidly in' thisvposition, I have provided .an oblong opening29- in the upper portion of the lug 19, and have also provided al'ocking Wing 30 pivoted to the back face of the member 6 at the point 31. l/Vhen the easel member isA raised up intov the position of Fig. 4 the lockingfmember 30 passes through the opening' 29 and may then be turned over at right angles, as showninv Fig. 4,1so as to lock these parts together. If necessary, a slot 32 may be provided in the upper portion of the wing 20 to receive this locking member when f so turned intol the working position.

While I have herein shown and described only a single embodiment of the featuresof my present invention, still Ido not intend to Alimit myself theretoexceptas I may do so in the claims.v l i y'I claim:

As a new article of manufacture, an advertising `display novelty comprising, in combination, a base member, a central display element projecting upwardly therefrom, a substantially circular corona element surrounding the central display element and having one end rigid with respect to the lower portion of one side of the central display element, whereby the free end of the corona element may be ldrawn downwardly and inwardly behind the central display element to thereby cause the corona. element to assume a conical form with its concave sur-l face facing forwardly behind the central display element, means for securing the corona element in such position, and a suitable bracket member in conjunction with` said device, substantially as described.

4. As a new article of manufacture, an

combination, a base member, a. central display element i projecting upwardly-i. there. from, al substantially circular corona element surrounding the central display element and having-its ends relativelyv movable towards each other, whereby when said f ends are drawn towards each other and behind the lower portion of the central display element the corona element is caused to assume a conical form behind the central display element and'with its concave surface facing forwardly, to thereby enhance the prominence of the display of the central display element, means for securing the corona element in such position, and suitable bracket devices for supporting the device in upright position,substantially as described.

5. As a new article of manufacture, anadvertising novelty comprising, in combina-- tion, a unitary blank of cardboard or pasteboard having its lowerl portion cnt to the perimeterof a desired base member and havv ing its upper portion cut to the perimeter of a substantially circular corona element above the position of the base member, and also the central display element, along such linev and permit the free end ofthe corona ele-` ment to be'drawn downwardly and inwardly being provided with a cut line defining the` behind the position of lthe central display4 'element to thereby establish a conical corona vmember behind` the central display element and with its concave surface facing forwardly, means for securing the free 'end of the corona element in such position, and a suitf able bracket in conjunction with allof said parts, substantially as described.

6. As a new article of manufacture, an adyertising display novelty comprising, in combination, a base member having an up-` wardly projecting central display member on its upper portion, all of saidy parts norn mally lying in substantially the same plane, f"

a substantially circular corona element en' circling the central display element and located behind the same with its concave surface ,facing forwardly, one end of said coionaelement being rigid with respect to the central display element, a., bracket stand onv the back surface of the base member and projecting rearwardly therefrom, there being a substantially vertical slot in said` bracket member immediately adjacent to the back surface of the base member, and a suitable hook on the lower portion of the free end of the corona element adapted to ongagesaid slot to thereby secure the corona` elementin conical form and with its free end lying kclose to the back surface of the base member, substantially as described.
