This invention relates to certain improvements in vanity cases andparticularly to improvements in a combined article holder and spring catch for use with these cases.

In certain types of vanity cases, which are small boxes usually of metal, employed for packing toilet articles, such as powder and rouge, there are provided a body and a cover associated on a hinge, a catch being providedrfor holding these parts in locked relation. In many oi these boxes a mirror or other article is carried in one member of the box, a toilet preparation being carried in the other member.

It is the especial object of the present invention to provide an improved hinge and catch construction for these boxes in which a fitment is provided, one part of which will act to secure an article in the box and the other part of which will carry a spring catch, this fitment being provided with means for securing it in the box and including a hinge ior uniting the body and the cover.

A further object of the invention is to roduce a box of this type which shall have 'ew parts and in which the fitment may be easily and quickly associated with the body and the cover so as to pivotally unite these parts and which at the same time shall be sufficiently strong and durable for the use contemplated.

With these and other objects not specifically referred to in view, the invention consists in certain novel parts,-arrangements and combinations which will be described in connection with the accompanying drawings and the novel features pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Referring now to these drawings, the improved box includes a cover part or member 1. and a body The cover 1 is provided with a peripheral flange 3, which at its back is cut away as indicated at 4 to receive a hinge, hereinafter referred to. i The front of the wall is provided with an outstruck portion leaving a recess 6 for engagement with a catch, also hereinafter referred to. The body 2 formed with a peripheral wall 7, the rear end of which is cut away, as indicated at 8, and the front of which is provided with aslot 9, the parts 8 and 9 being later on referred to The side wall 7 is inset at 10 to form a flange 11 with which the wall 3 of the cover has telescopic engagement when the box is closed.

One of the members of the box, as the cover, is designed to carryan article, this article in the present inseance being a mirror 12, and the cover and the body are locked together by a spring catch, indicated generally by the numeral 13 in Fig. 1, and the body and the cover are pivotally associated. In accordance with the invention, a fitment is provided, which comprises an annulus or bezel for holding the mirror in place and a part or ring carrying the spring catch, these two members being formed with integral so that when the fitment is placed in the box it will pivotally, associate the body and the cover, will hold the mirror or other article in place, and will provide the spring catch for holding the parts together.

. lVhile the particular construction of this fitment may be somewhat varied as shown, it comprises an annulus or bezel 14 forming a downwardly extending flange 15, the bezel being provided with spaced hinge knuckles 16 formed by turning over a part of the metal oi. thebezel. The other member is shown in the form of a strip 17, which is provided with spaced by turning in the metal at the ends of the strip, and centrally strip is formed with a spring catch. 19 tor-med integrally therewith, a manual release 20 being provided for manipulating the catch. The two parts oi the titment are secured together by a pin 21. which passes through the hinge knuckles 1G, 18 and pivotally associates these two parts. This titment is secured in the box, the annulus or bezel fitting into the cover, and the strip fitting into the body. Means are provided for securing these parts in the box so that they will lie securely in place and will thus act to hingedly unite the body and cover.

\Vhilc these n sins may vary. iii the particular construction illustrated. the walls of the cover are provided with inwardly extending projections 22 past which the annulus or bezel may be forced. As the annulus or bezel is dimcnsioneil to have a snug frictional lit with the wall 2- of the cover, these indcnts assist in holdingit securely in place. The strip is held in place by its resiliency. To provide for the reception of a compact or the like, the strip is. as shown, cut away at opposite sides to form recesses 23 past. which a compact or the like may be sprung, these recesses being located, when the parts are assembled, at opposite sides of the box between the spring catch and the hinge.

\Vith the construction described, a very s mple and compact arrangement has been provided for pivotally associating the two parts of a box for holding an article in the spring and tor providing a spring catch which is easily and quickly assembled and which provides a sutlicicntly strong structure for the uses contemplated.

\Vhile the invention is shown and described in its preferred form. it will be umlerstood. of course. that various changes may he made in the particular construction of the bezel and strip. and the means for securing these parts in the box without departing from the invention as defined in the appended claims.

\Vhat. I claim is:

1. In a. vanity case. body and cover members. a bezel in one of the members, a strip in the other of the members of a length corresponding to the inside periphery of the member. said bezel and trip having integral intcrcngaging hinge knuckles. the knuckles on the strip being arranged on the opposite ends thercol, a pin passing through the knuckles. and a spring catch carried by one of the parts for locking the body and cover together.

2. In a vanity case, body and cover members. a bezcl in one of the members. of a length corresponding to the inside periphery ol' the member. a strip in the other ol the members. a mirror held in place by the bezel. hinge knuckles formed on the edges of the bezel and trip. the knuckles on the strip being formed on the opposite ends. thereof. a pin uniting the ki'iuckles. and an integral spring catch on the strip for locking the body ant. cover together.

3. In a vanity case, body and cover members. a bezel in one of the members, a strip in the other of the members of a length corresponding to the inside periphery of the member. a mirror held in place by the bezel, hinge knuckles integral with the strip and bezel, the knuckles on the strip being formed on the tm 'iosite ends thereof, a pin uniting the knuckles, means for holding" the bezel in engagement with the walls of the member in which it is placed, notches in the strip for permitting the reception of an article, and a spring catch on the strip for locking the body and cover together.

4-. It combined article holder and catch for vanity boxes, comprising a bezel and a strip having integral intcrcngaging hinge knuckles, a pintle passing through the knuckles. said strip being of a length corresponding to the inside pcriphciy ot the member and having the knuckles thereon formed on the opposite ends thereof, and a catch integral with the strip.

A combined article holder and catch for vanity boxes, comprising a bezel having a flange. a strip having notches said bezel and strip having interengaging hinge knuckles. the knuckles on the strip being formed on the opposite ends thereof. a pintle pas ing through the knuckles, and a catcl'i carried by the strip.
