IMPROVEMENT lN ADJUSTABLE FACE-PLATES FOR LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,797, dated August 17, 1875; application filed February 21, 1874. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EUGENE M. MIX and JAMES E. MIX, of Westfield, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Door-Locks; and we do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures. of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a sectional view of our door-lock. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the faceplate of our door-lock. Y
This invent-ion has relation to reversible mortise door-locks; and it consists in pivoting or hinging the face-plate of such a lock to the case thereof, whereby this plate is adjustable to the bevel edge of a door, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings, A designates the case of a right-and-left-haud mortise-lock, which case, together with the mechanism contained within it, may be constructed in the usual well-known manner, and nothing is herein claimed for it. B is the face-plate of the case, which is constructed with perforated lugs a a on its back side, which lugs are received into the end of the case A, and connected thereto by means of screw-pivots b b or rivets.
The face-plate B is thus allowed to rock, and hence it is adjustable to the beveled edge of a door, and can be fitted flush thereto.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A lock-case, A, having the face-plate hinged or pivoted to it, whereby the plate can be adjusted to the bevel edge of a door, substantially as described.
