F. W. GRADY ELEVATOR LINK FOR SUCKER RODS Filed Meirch 26. 1927 amt v m r Patented May 1, 1928. l
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELEVATOR LINK non snoxnn nons.
Application filed March 26, 1927. Serial No. 178,755.
This invention has reference to a link especially designed for use in connection with well tubing elevators, the primary object of the invention being to provide a link of this character wherein the elevator will be evenly balanced to insure a direct pull on the tubing being elevated.
An object or" the invention is to provide a link of this cha acter which may be readily and easily connected with the usual tubing elevator without making changes in the construction thereof.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combi nation and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departin from the spirit of the invention.
lleferring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view illustrating an elevator equipped with a link constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the elevator showing the links in section.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the links.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the elevator which is of the usual and well known structure, the same embodying the usual handle 6, whereby the elevator may be positioned.
Extending laterally from the elevator are spaced ears 7 between which the usual connecting links are supported, and between which the links, forming the subject matter of this invention are held, as clearly shown by the drawing.
The link forming the essence of the invention includes a reduced extension 8 that is of a width to closely fit within the space between the ears 7, the same being provided with an opening 9 for the reception of the pivot pin 10 which also passes through aligning openings in the ears for pivotallyconmeeting the link to the elevator. Means such as cotter keys indicated at 11 are provided at the ends of the pin to prevent the pin from moving laterally through the, openings.
ings of the ears and head associated therewith to pivotally secure the link 14 in position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to this construction, pivotal moveme-ntvwill be permitted between the link and elevator in various directions, so that the elevator will automatically assume a horizontal position to insure a direct pull on the tubing be- I. g elevated, thereby facilitating the removal or the tubing.
1 claim:
1. ln combination with a tubing elevator,
link members having pivotal connection with the elevator and adapted to swing laterally with respect to the elevator, said link Inembers having spaced ears, said ears of the link members being disposed at right angles to the upper surface of the tubing elevator, and a link having heads positioned between the ears of the link members.
2. 1n combination with atubing elevator having laterally extended pairs of cars, linkage including link members having extensions titted between the laterally extended ears, spaced ears on the link members and disposed at ri ht angles to the edges of the extensions, and an inverted U-shaped link having heads fitted between the last mentioned pairs of ears, and :t'orming a part of the linkage.
3. In combination with a tubing elevator having pairs of laterally extended ears, linke age including link members having extensions pivotally mounted between the ears, said members having pairs of upstanding ears, an inverted U-shaped link, means for pivotally connecting the U-shaped link to the last mentioned ears to cause the U-shaped link to swing in a plane at right angles to the movement of the first mentioned link members and at right angles with respect to the elevator.
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature.
FRANK WVILLIAM GRADY.
