This invention relates to clothes-line supports and, Ywhile not limited thereto, relates more particularly. to clothes-line supports adapted to beattachedto 'a post buildingorV other supporting structure, an Ahas for itsy object the provision of a clothes-'line support that is readily adjustable vertically so as to' facilitate .the attachment of the line -and so the necessity of using intermediate tempol rary supports along the line.

Referring more 'particularly to the drawings, the letter A designates the body member ,as a whole which is preferably of elongated box-like construction and is formed from a single piece of metal. cut and pressed up to .form a back wall 2 and side and end walls 3 and 4, respectively. The end walls 3f will 35. preferably overlap the end faces of the side walls 2 and the abutting faces of the end and side walls may be welded or otherwise secured together, if desired.

When the device is to be fastened to a post such as indicated at 20 in Figure 4, U-clamps 21 or other clamping membersmay be used.

In operation, the line support 19 is adapted to be lowered until its handle 14 will enter the lowermost notch 5 and the handle and support will then be rotated and the handle entered in the lowermost notch and seated in the recess 6 of said notch. The line may then be readily attached to the hook 17. After the line has been attached to the support, the support may be readily raised by lifting on the handle 14 and moving it up to one of the other successively higher notches. If,

after.` the clothes are hung onthe line, they :are too close to the ground the support may be further elevated by liftingv on the-handle 14 and raising to a still further'notch.'

By providing the notches 54 in both side walls 3 the device is capable o f either right or left handoperation and, therefore, is of universal application. lIf a closer spacing of notches is desired, the notches in one side wall may be staggered relative to the notches in -the otherwall and then, by entering the vhandle in the notches of the opposite walls, ya close adjustment may be had.

rIhe device. above described is of simple construction, cheap to manufacture, has no springs or other delicate mechanism to get out of order and is of universal applicationf l that is, it may be readily attached to the side wall of a building, to a pole or to` any other permanent structure.

While I have shownand described certain specific embodiments of my invention it will be understood that I do not wish to-be limited thereto since various modifications may be to form notches, and a line supporting standard having a length greater than twice the length of said body, said standard projecting through said apertures in said end walls and being slidablyand revolvably mounted relative to said body, a' handle member secured to said standard intermediate the ends thereof and projecting at right angles therefrom,

said handle serving to limit the movement of said standard so as to prevent the movement of said standard out of said'body, and said handle and said standard being adaptedto be rotated so as to move said handle into position to be engaged in selected ones 4of said notches to support said standard at various selected vertical positions. v

A clothes-line support comprising "a one-piece, elongated box-like body member one-piece, elongated box-like body memberhaving back, -side and end Walls, said end walls being provided with alined apertures, and' said side walls having their forward edges cut away at vertically spaced intervals to form notches, and a two-piece tubular line supporting standard havi'ng a length greater than twice the length of said body, said 'standard projecting through said apertures in said end walls and being slidably and revolva-bly mounted relative to said body, said standard being divided at a point approximately midwa between its ends and the two lparts thereof eing joined by a T-fitting, a

handlemember secured in said T-itting and projecting outwardly at right angles to said standard, said handle and said standard bej ing adapted to be rotated so as to4 move said ertures, and av two-piece tubular line supporting standard having a length greater than twice thev length of vsaid body, said standard projecting'through said bushings in saidapertures in said end walls and being slidably andrrevolvably mounted relative to said body, said standard being divided intermediate its ends and the two parts thereofbeing joined by a T-itting, a handle member secured in said T-itting and projecting outwardly at right angles to said standard, `said handleeand said standard being adapted to be rotated so as to move said handle into posi-- tion to be engaged in selected ones of sai(1 notches to support said standard' at various selected vertical positions.
